Patch 6.02a Major Slowdown

I am running windows 98 with all other programs shutdown and when I run OOTP6.2a and try to sim say a week or even a month the game stops responding for about 2-3 minutes in between each game simulated. It unbearable its so slow-i thought maybe my memory went bad so to troubleshoot this i reinstalled the first patch and the game works like it did before i installed the new one. Any obvious answers here? I dont see the point of playing a game that will take me a half of an hour to simulate a month.

BTW my system has plenty of ram but a slow processor (566mhz)

Any fixes or help would be appreciated.

Near the end Markus is saying he may be able to fix it soon. There is one option in the setup that gets rid of most of the problem. I talk about it in that thread.
