AI Drafting Tendencies?
Hello,
I installed the new patch, and I can't seem to find the option for favoring OBA or Speed. If someone can mention where that is (I probably didn't look hard enough) I'd appreciate it. I was unclear--is this a league wide setting, or a team specific setting? I'd think that each team should have a different preference. I'm more of a "Whitey-ball" fan, so I know where I'd want that set. This made me think of several other questions, though. Some of these I can probably track down on my own (I just don't think of them while I'm at my home computer with access to the game). Does the AI change the "Team Strategies" for computer teams and players? Does the AI take advantage of strengths and weaknesses on a team? Meaning, is there more than one algorithm for the computer to pick from when assembling a team, based on "stuff" it can calculate, or is there one algorithm that tries to play the game the way Marcus (as the developer) would play it if he were managing, regardless of personnel (no offense, Marcus!!!) I'm thinking if I have 6 Mark McGuires on a team, I'm going to play very different than if I have 6 Vince Colemans. To that end, During Drafts (especially initial drafts) does the computer have "tendancies" that it tries for different teams? Does it try to load up on righties for some teams, balance for others? I ask this last one because Strat-o-Matic baseball (from several years ago) did indeed have something like this built in. It apparently had "templates" it would apply to each team--you could call these manager templates. Some templates would go for Home Run Hitters, other's for strong pitching, still others for speed, or defense, or a strong "vs. lefties" lineup. It would then manage the team to that specific template--so if it had selected a speedy team, it would Lead off with a high OBA base stealer, follow him with a bunter, etc. If OOTP doesn't do this--I think it would make an excellent future enhancement. Thanks a bunch!

To give a slightly longer answer to the rest of your question, the computer does keep in mind the kinds of players it has on its teams and handles the in-game strategy accordingly.
As for the rest of what you mentioned, if you're interested, here's a thread that you might find useful in regards to this type of suggestion: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...threadid=62023 Post your own thoughts, and perhaps it will be deemed "worthy" of inclusion with the next version (perhaps update, but I'm thinking that's just me dreaming).
