Korean + Scottish Name Files
I bet I know what you guys have been thinking. 'I'd love to run a Korean league, but the Asian names file is mostly Japanese! What can I do?'
Well, now I can make available the 'korean name file set'!. It is, of course, not without its problems. First off, Korean surnames do not vary - in fact, around 20 cover 60% of the population. There's only 68 surnames in surname file. This is a problem. Of course, that's only if you Europeanise the name (as has been done with Byung-Hyung Kim and Chan-Ho Park) by putting the surname last. If you want to avoid the problem, or you've got the 'when in Rome' syndrome, swap the names around I know nothing about Korea or Korean society, so if I have done something ludicrously stupid, please tell me. I tried to collect some logos from the Korean Baseball League website and ran into 2 problems: one, they're all in Korean, and two, they're such wonderful websites that they are so full of flash animations you can't find an image that just sits still. Hopefully, these will be of use to someone. Don't forget my Scottish name file either - you could run a Highland/Korean league!

Well, I was of course inspired by your gorgeous work for the JBL. My impetus to make the Korean files was so I could use your wonderful facepacks in a new setting!

I can't believe I didn't post it. Anyway, here they are again, slightly updated. They'e still far from perfect (too many Mac/Mcs) and past the first 100 surnames they aren't weighted. Moreover, I need to get more first names (mental note to self).
Anyway, here we go:

Where did you get your names? I have a Korean name file also. If you don't think yours is complete, I could email you mine and you could combine the two, if you want.
BTW I haven't DLd yours yet... -------------------- Ethnically accurate name files matter! (with apologies to LGO)

Excellent! I make my name files by getting a graded list of popular names - so the surnames are to top 68 ranked with numerical values. For first names, I couldn't find any such lists, so I go scouring, and I collect all the first names I can find from football squads, baseball squads, staff lists etc. then give them all a default value of 1. There's 450+ first names, but only 68 surnames (for the reasons listed)
Feel free to just download them, add mine to yours and post them back up with a new snazzy name in a new thread! Great to hear others are doing the same thing! |

Anyone have a names file for like the 1700's, 1800's, and 1900's? I've been thinking about starting a league in 1790 in early USA and running it all the way to the present and beyond.
I just thought it'd be a bit weird seeing Japanese and Latino players on early American teams.

Mal himself has an excellent historical names file at BBSimCentral. It's down, so you might want to email him.
scpride just compiled a historical nicknames list from Lahman's database. It's in the forum, somewhere! |

If you unzip them and copy them into the DATA folder, changing them to 'names' and fnames, or 'anames' and 'afnames', or 'lanames' or 'lafnames' depending on the frequency you want them, and all newly created players (rookies etc) will come out in Korean.

I am working on a program that will generate new names and origins for all players. It will only modify players that are created as fictional players by OOTP. So, you could run it every season and it will only change new players. You will also be able to set how often each nationality is generated, and I plan on including a number of different nationalities.
