Just started a 1903 sim. Finished WS. Exported my site files and began importing via Cato's newest version.

"There is a problem importing line 254 in the file \players.csv"

Can someone please lend me some advice so I can make the proper corrections???????????

Here is line 254:

The line number isn't always exact. Check the 2 or 3 lines before this one. More than likely there is a player whose nickname has a double quote at the end of it. Something like this:

253,"Hrabosky","Al","The mad hunger"",R,R,.....

This is common in historical leagues. In OOTP, nicknames have a 15 character limit. If an imported player's nickname is more than 15 characters, OOTP doesn't handle it very well. I'll see if I can't correct for this in the next version.

I'm sorry, unfortunately I'm still having difficulties. I opened player.csv in Excel and wiped out column D for nicknames. Then I saved it, but everytime I begin the import, the names are there again, and I'm still getting the error. BTW I suspect the error is caused by

253,"Strang","Sammy","The dixie thrusSR",S,R,"","USA,TN,CHATTANOOGA"

Am I editing the wrong file and do I need to redo a process?

here's what I normally do to fix these problems:

Find the player that is causing the problem...in this case, you've found it with Sammy Strange. Go back into OOTP and find Sammy Strange in the game. Edit out his nickname in the game. Either change it to be under 15 characters or just delete it altogether. This will fix the problem not only for this year, but all future years. If you just fix it in the file once, the next time you export the stuff to .csv it's just going to grab his nickname again.

Once you've edited the nickname out of the game, run the exporter batch again.

That should do it.
