Another Draft Decision
I ended up with 1st overall pick for the initial draft of my online league. I am looking at two players right now. Who is better in your opinion. They are both 26 year old centerfielders.
Fred Kocher (R) - Speed 9 - Steal 10 - Running 9 - Fielding 10 - arm 3 - Clutch Suffers - Contact 80 - Gap Power 100 - HRs 78 - Eye 100 - Avoid Ks 70. Bill Durham (L) - Speed 6 - Steal 4 - Running 3 - Fielding 7 - Arm 6 - Very Inconsistent - Contact 79 - Gap Power 54 - HRs 95 - Eye 100 - Avoid Ks 68. Adding to this is that my park favours lefty power, and righty average. Kocher is loyal to the team and has good consistentcy. Durham is not loyal but has average clutch skills. Which is worse in your opinion, very inconsistent, or clutch = suffers? Who would you take? |

I'd take Bill Durham. Not as fast but a better arm and still solid fielding wise. Also the HR power makes him a better pick considering he also has a 79 contact and 100 eye.

They're about a wash IMO. Based on what you said of the park settings, I think Durham would be the better player for your team. Clutch and consistency aren't really as important as any of the other ratings you listed.

I would take.
W. Jimenez 22 1B 6 30 22 16 1 1 2 5 I think he would fit with all prospects and projects draft that I know you really want to do. I only got the 15th pick or so. Art |

Gee, that name looks familiar. They're both top players in the GVBL that's for sure and I'd probably be asking the same questions if I were drafting first (10th and after the other 4 teams in my division... waah). Personally, I might have had to flip a coin, choosing between them.
Gotta love lefty power and your park sounds like it's a perfect match for Durham. My park's a bit less friendly to hitters (I think), so I myself probably would have gone Kocher. I'll win more games if I have outfielders who can range more easily, and find gaps, and can steal. Kocher is probably a better fit for a team that wants an 'all the tools' player, while Durham is for the team that wants a guy who will knock in runs. All I know is this, both players go on my 'watch list', and if somehow Kocher falls to #10 I'll be a happy GM. I expect them to go 1 2 though. |

My park is not hitter freindly either, but I don't see any pitchers that are as outstanding at such a young age. My park is easier on lefty power and righty average.
The tools do appeal to me, especially the speed and the range in CF. My park also has a huge CF. I wouldn't be surprised if they went 1-2 though. Unless the #2 has some other choice like mabye a pitcher. |

I'd take Kocher, but I always look for speed.

I like Durham better because he's a lefty, but it's pretty much a toss up. What about their injury ratings? If one was prone that would eliminate him in my book.

Both have normal durability ratings. The best young starting pitcher in the draft is injury prone. That is why I am not considering taking a pitcher instead.

id take kocher because you have the potential of 35HRs 40Steals and 40-50 doubles and he would also bat third or so with that speed which is incredible

Loyalty is a major thing also... it is great to get a great young player to resign with your ball club instead of getting...

Yeah, I don't really know how much difference the loyalty factor will make. I haven't experimented too much with it, but it is still a positive.

Hey Trapper. I tried to do a writeup comparing the top 2 choices in the draft (as you seem to be deciding between anyhow) on the forums of the GVBL. Tried to be as neutral as possible in describing both players, but maybe it'll help out... however, read it like it's from an actual sports writer, most likely with biases. Just thought you might be interested.

Those guys are #1 and 2 on my list, but since I have the #2 pick I won't say who is #1
