Catobase Problem

I love this program but I cannot get past this.

I am trying to import the files into the program and then get ready to export the HTML but I can't get the program to import the Award Winners.

It comes up with Invalid call or procedure each time. I tried running it after I finished importing but from the awards screen it still says the same thing.

Anyone know of any way to do this other than manually putting them in?

Thanks in advance.

Jim

I had this happen several times while testing. I would fix one and another variation would pop up. This might be one more that I didn't see before.

One of the times it would happen was if the Batter and Pitcher awards had the same name. I'm pretty sure I fixed this, though.

Use the support ticket system at www.equalnicity.com and attach your data files and I'll take a look.

One thing I just found in someone else's league is that if an award name is the same as a player name and that player as news entry in lnews.html. It will crash. For example, the award was named Cy Young and Cy Young the player won a pitcher of the month award and it crashed.

My suggestion to avoid this was to call the pitcher award the 'Cy Young Award'. This would work fine.

Although I am not a newbie to OOTP, I am new to the the CatoBase experience. Tried it with my current online line several times, before I realized that this an "end of the season" program, as opposed to during the season. OK. Tried it with my season from last year (OTL 2003), and after a lot of tweaking of nicknames, and hometowns, I got it done, and uploaded to my server. Love it!!!

OTL 2003 in CatoBase

In looking around, I discovered that all of my player photos were missing. They were all imported into Cato, and the were all uploaded to the server. In checking closer, I found that the player photo index numbers were all screwed up. Not one player photo numbers matched the player index numbers.
ie.
* Ted Williams - Player Index ID: williated865 Player Photo ID: williated327
* Ty Cobb - Player Index ID: cobbty785 Player Photo ID: cobbty476
I was able to get this corrected by going to the server, and manually changing the numbers (only got them changed up thru thru C).

I also discovered that most all of the players were listed four times in the alpha index html file (I have no idea how, or why this happened).
ie.
* cashnorm854.html (picture)
* cashnorm854sp.html
* cashnorm947.html (no picture)
* cashnorm047sp.html

* cobbty785.html (picture)
* cobbty785sp.html
* cobbty476.html (no picture)
* cobbty476sp.html

* williated856.html (picture)
* williated856sp.html
* williated619.html (no picture)
* williated619sp.html

The program is truly awesome, and I can live with those little glitches (altho I would like to find out what caused them)!! Thanks and Cudos for all your hard work!!!

The number at the end is not the player's PNum. It is a randomly generated number based on his birthdate and PNum. The reason for this is that I ran across cases where a player retired and a rookie a few seasons later would have his same name and PNum. Rare, but it did happen.

As for the other problems, I'll look into it. I don't use player photos or make the yearly splits page often, so maybe something get messed up in that section.

I did a league with photos and yearly split pages and don't see a problem. As for your duplicate players, are you sure there aren't 2 in OOTP. If there are 2 Ty Cobbs they will have different PNums and thus different playerids.

Jeff,

First, I want to say that you have put together an awesome utility. I just put it online for the NGBL. Thanks!

Now the question... You mention above that you calculate number at the end of the player file using birthday and player number. Could you publish that calculation or is it completely random? I would like to link to these pages though the modified BOSI interface I have.

Thanks
John

There were some cases where I imported the same player from two different seasons in order to compare ratings. After the comparisons, I deleted one of the players; however, there are no duplicate players in our player pool.

What about the player index id's and their corresponding photo id's being different?

It uses the RND function in Visual Basic to generate a pseudo-random number. I'm not sure you would be able to repeat that in PHP. I could send you the code if you think that would help.

I'm not really sure what to say about your problem. I would check the CSV files. Do they have players listed twice? Perhaps it was a fluke and starting over from scratch would help?

What "csv" files do you want me to check?

The players.csv file should have 1 line for each player. You could search a couple names just to be sure they are not in there more than once.

Nope, player.csv file is good, one of each.
