Retirement e-mails causing crashes

I started setting up a custome league pre-patch. Assigned teams, divisions etc. Released all players.

I then installed patch.

Entered my own custom schedule. Set up logos and face packs. let AI run initial draft for all teams.

Took control of one team. Tweaked lineups, depth charts and rotations at all levels.

Saved game

Went to first day on schedule

Selected sim week.

First days games were all simmed including my own team.

Received notification of e-mails.

Indicated yes, I wanted to stop the sim. Game crashes and closes. (No other programs open at the time) (anti-virus running in bakground)

Started OOTP again. The results of the first days game had been saved, and I could read the e-mails that were notifications of retirements.

Whenever I try to sim the e-mail notification pops up again and game crashes regardless of whether i select yes or no. Upon reopening there are a whole new set of retirement notices from the same players (the old ones are still there too)

I have also tried it with auto-virus disabled and had the same result.

I am running XP Home edition on a PIII 1GHz with 512MB of RAM

Any help would be appreciated

Update:

The stats from the first day's games had not been updated to the player files because the day is not yet complete. After trying three more times it appears I received all of the e-mails about retirement now.

Now when I try to fininsh simming the day, there is no e-mail notification; it just crashes right away.

A further error in my original post. It appears I significantly changed the default league rather than created a new fictional league.

I am having exactly the same problem with 6.01. I created a custom league using default players (2 leagues, 3 divisions in each league and 4 teams in each division = 24 teams) and received an e-mail on the first day that crashed the game when I clicked Yes to read it.

I was able to get back into the league and find out it was a retirement message about Al Leiter. I can't get past simming this first day even though all games finished. I tried creating another custom league and the same thing happens.

If I use the career 2004.lg that comes with the game I can successfully sim past the first day.

I have XP pro, 1.7Ghz, 384MB RAM, 7 GB free HD, Radeon 9200 with 128MB RAM, DX 9.0B. I tried with Direct 3D and sound both on and off. Antivirus on and off.

Help!

BTW, even turning off e-mail notification to human teams does not help. It still crashes after simming the first day.

Try creating a league with fictional players and see if this happens.

I created the exact same custom league using fictional players instead of default and can sim without crashing.

Well, more and more I'm getting the feeling that there is a problem w/ the "default" roster/players.

I am having the same problem of crashes while receiving retirement emails using CBL Cardinals Version 2.0 rosters after having contracted two teams.
