Rescinding Free Agent Offers

I did a search and found nothing but that doesn't mean I didn't use the right keywords. Anyway ...

Our league has a hard salary cap. Quite often, teams will have more $$ for FA than cap room. Because we cannot tell who will sign with us, we often have teams bid on players and the total of their bids far exceeds the cap room they have.

This causes a problem as they can theoretically drive up prices on FAs and then not be able to sign them. What I'd like to know is if OOTP6 has the ability to rescind offers at any time after the initial offer has been submitted.

What we would like to do is allow the Commish to rescind offers on behalf of the team that has hit their cap level. Right now, that's not possible unless they lead on a guy.

I guess people have their panties in a wad because if all those guys signed he'd be over the cap and then he'd have to cut people and the salaries would count against his expenses blah blah blah.

Anyone have any ideas?

This would be very nice and its bit me in the past.
This is especially a problem for online leagues where multiple FA days are done at once and the winning team may withdrawl a bid and it goes to the 2nd team who may have already moved to other players but was unable to withdraw an offer because they weren't the leading bid.

I don't know if OOTP6 fixed it but it was one thing I was definitely hoping it would!!!

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully it will get worked out because people are throwing hands over it on my league's board

yep i hope ootp 6 can fix that

i guess in meantime make a hard rule on that for your league..if a owner keeps doing that if he bids on a FA and dont have the cap, money, etc ...penalize him...

Sorry guys, but fix what? When playing Solo, you can rescind FA offers whenever you want. The players will then not negoitate with you. I'm not sure that it can happen in a MP league, but if you can't, what's the big deal? Sorry guys, to me, it's not that big of a deal. Anyone who goes over the cap can trade away players to get under it, it'll just be harder to get anything of value since other teams will know that your trying to do it. I guess, to me, it's part of being a good GM.

You can only pull offers if you are the high bidder. In a solo league this works out because computers don't retract offers.

In online leagues it doesn't. If you are #2 bidder, even if you don't want the guy you can't pull the offer. Thus if the high bidder does and free agency is processed, you can get screwed (as I have in the past)

Ok, my only question is why would you bid on someone you don't want. I guess if you bid on 2 guys, win the other one, then you don't need the other guy.

Well when you make the bid you obviously want him.. but things change, especially when you think you are out of the running without the top bid.

Thus what happened to me was I bid that money elsewhere and then I had top bids on a different player and unexpectedly got both. If I could have just pulled my offer when I wasn't the top bid, I wouldn't have that problem. Plus teams couldn't spend too much either.

Yeah, I figured that I answered my own question. Although myself, when I bid in online leagues, I usually don't bid on another until I lose.
Could be the reason why I suck so much in my leagues.

What you can do is rebid on a player you don't want anymore. Bid half your original offer or $1/1 year, etc.

But it really would be easier to just allow you to rescind any bid.

Does anyone know if there's an explanation as to why the game doesn't allow it? Might be one of those things added because it is a program and not real life.

I find myself doing this a lot. I need a top starter an there are two available. Since the league runs 5 FA sims at a time I have to bid on both. However if I win the one then I either don't need, or can't afford, the other.

Another problem is that many legues don't allow trading of FA signees until mid-season. So I can't just sign them both and trade one.

You can't rescind your offer if you are winning the player, but you can change your offer to a MLC...
