Game crashes after sound enabled
I have two computers at my house. I first installed OOTP6 on my IBM but the game crashes every time I try to play the first game of the season. I can draft and set the league up just fine, but when I go to the schedule and click on play game for my team the game crashes when it gets to the first batter and I click on Swing Away. It also crashes if I try to sim any game my team is involved in, but sims computer controlled teams fine. My IBM is a P4 1.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 40GB HD (over 30 GB free), GeForce 2 32MB video card, soundblaster sound card, Win XP Pro SP1, DirectX 9.0b.
I uninstalled it from that system and put it on my main system which I just got done reloading Win XP Pro on. This system is a P4 2.4 GHz, 1GB RAM, 180GB HD (over 100GB free), ATI Radeon 9800XT 256 MB video card, Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS, XP Pro SP1, DirectX 9.0b. The game actually worked initially on this system until I enabled sound, now it does the exact same thing as my IBM did, which is crash when I click on Swing Away with my first batter or try to just sim the game. I have tried disabling sound, etc but it still crashes. I have all the current driver updates for all compoenents of my system. Any ideas? |

I should also mention I have Norton AV running on the IBM, no applications running while playing on my primary system.

You may need to "disable" in-game sounds in "game setup". As you may or may not know adding sound to ANY program brings up the possibility for many more conflicts with other programs, drivers, etc on a PC.
You may try updating your sound card drivers, but not sure it will help.

SOUND PROBLEMS
I have a similiar problem with a PIII with 512 ram, 64 MB Geforce sound card and a 60GB hard drive. I also have the latest drivers and directX installed. Whenever I ry to enable in gme sounds from various places in the game ( game setup or the icon in the upper right) the game and the computer locks up. It is frustrating because it will add enjoyment to an otherwise excellent game. I will take any suggestions

All drivers on the system have been updated, including sound drivers. I also tried the patch as well but it made no difference. Even with sound disabled now the game still crashes. I even tried reinstalling the game and rebooting the computer, but it crashes regardless, sound disabled. I have no problems with any other applications on the system and the OS is freshly installed as of two days ago.

I am also having sound problems for the first time. AMD K7 chip running Windows 98SE on a 500 Mhz computer with Soundblaster Live (or Live Value, can't rememer) sound card. OOTP5 sound worked fine. Now, whenever, I start a game, about three batters into the game, the game locks up. No problems if I disabled the sound.
The sound was a really nice feature for me! Help!

I got mine to work finally. Last night when I got home from work I unlicensed the game, uninstalled the game, cleaned out anything in the registry I could find, deleted the game folder, rebooted the computer. Then I installed the game using the default install path, applied the patch and licensed the game. The game now works perfectly even with sound enabled. The only thing that was done differently on this install is that I used the default install directory. Usually I install games in their own directory just off the root of my system drive.
