Statistical Integrity
I'm somewhat worried about DIPS. I always felt like OOTP5 gave me perfectly realistic stats, I'm not so sure about OOTP6. For example, I imported CBL, and I'm playing as the Devil Rays. Jeremi Gonzalez and Victor Zambrano were both fairly successful pitchers last year, yet neither is a real strikeout pitcher. It seems like they are in OOTP6-- in the few starts they've made (I'm going to manage every game), they have pitched horribly yet manage to have more Ks than innings. It seems like the OOTP6 engine won't accept a decent pitcher that doesn't rely on Ks, and so altered them to become strikeout pitchers. Mike Mussina has like 25 Ks in his first two starts. Also, it seems like my weak pitching has given up an inordinate amount of HR. Sure, the Devil Rays pitching will give up a lot of homers, but this is like 3-5 HR per game. I'm worried that the engine is now relying mainly on Ks and HR due to DIPS. Somebody reassure me that they've compared OOTP6's output to past MLB seasons, and have found the stats to be realistic.

Are you using an imported roster? OOTP doesn't know names, not ratings - so it could be that Gonzales and Zambrano are being weighted against their frankly poor non-2003 outings.
Moreover, if you've only started a few games, then perhaps it's best to report at the end of the season when results have had time to level off. Hey, Mussina himself got rocked the first couple of starts!

I play fictional leagues, so this doesn't affect me, but it seems that unrealistic results would be due more to inaccurate roster ratings rather than due to the new ootp engine. Perhaps the rostermakers have yet to properly calibrate individual players ratings for the new engine.

Two games is not *nearly* a large enough sample size. Further, if you think OOTP6 can't deal with good pitchers who aren't strikeout pitchers, meet David Glenn. His name is linked to his player card, but here are the vitals for his 2004 season:
208.1 IP, 115 K, 3.15 ERA Stuff: 34 Movement: 67 Control: 76 Velocity: 87-90 I have found that guys with low "stuff" rating (primary indicator of strikeouts) CAN do well in OOTP6, especially if they have a good defense playing behind them. Check out this guy: http://www.younglifenorthdekalb.com/ootp6/p507.html 12-7, 3.21, 221.1 IP, 141 K. He's got great control (91), decent movement, and he's on my team. I have a VERY good defense playing behind him. |

Could also have to do with league settings. I imported my v5 league into v6 midseason (late July) to see if it would work ok. In my previous 5 seasons of playing out all games my almanacs show probably 10 guys total with 15 or more K's in a game with the record being 16. In the three weeks I've played in v6 I think I've seen 4 guys get 15 k's.
Perhaps with the game now checking to see if there is contact first instead of an out first is resulting in more k's and they need to be adjusted for in the league setup. I'm not making any assumptions about this just yet as the sample is too small. Who knows I may not see another one until midseason next year.
