I have some leagues where I do nothing but sim and I have had some leagues where I do nothing but play. Depends on the scope of the league and what I am trying to accomplish.

I play approx. 5 out of every 6 games. I sometimes sim a Sunday game so I can see faster what happened to my players in "Player Development" on the next day (Monday).

Does anyone else cringe when you click on "Player Development" on a virtual Monday, awaiting the discovery that your top 5 star AAA prospect just had multiple talent hits?

Same here. I have one league where I started in 2003 and have played every game but one (accidentally simmed a day where I thought I had a day off) until the year 2008. It has taken awhile, but is really fun and I know a ton about the league.

Another league I sim day by day and change things around on almost a daily basis, while another league I sim a season at a sitting. All have their advantages and disadvantages.

I play every game out. Only time I sim is if I get thrown out of the game. I'm currently in 2012. I've been playing since May. I feel I know more about my team and league than I would if I sim weeks at a time.

I used to sim 6 innings in each game, then play the rest. This allowed me much control over substitution of pitchers and pinchhitters. But this took too long, so I now sim each game, one game at a time.

I control all league teams and make roster changes based only on stats, trying to not look at players talents and ratings.

I select the pitchers for each game, then sim and look at the boxscores.

All pitchers in my league have starter and reliever durations.

This allows me to use starters as relievers and relievers as starters. This is far more realistic than letting the AI do it. I play doubleheaders and this really has added more enjoyment and realism to the game.

I adjust pitching rotations about once a month.

I adjust lineups and depth charts about every two months.

I promote and demote players from the minors at mid-season and then in the last month of the season.

At the beginning of the next season, I promote and demote major and minor league players.

I playout all playoff games.

The more you play, the better you get to know your players and the league.

Why would anyone sim?

hmmm, i look at it completly different , why would anybody spend hours and hours playing out every game, i just follow along each game, numbers don't lie. It doen't take much to learn your players (or the league) I do play games of intrest , but i have no formula for it , a struggling pitcher, try some nwe lineup combos, even then i usually end up simming part of the game anyway.

Must play every single game. It isn't worth it otherwise for me.

Leagues where I GM a team I play out every game

Historical leagues I sim only.

I like looking at box scores but for me I don't get into it as much as I do if I play out & look at the box scores. I think it has to do with what I like about baseball IRL. I love looking at stats..comparing players and numbers..debating with my friends about this or that, but I also like the situations...those tense situations when the starter is tiring...or your relievers are wild and the game is on the line...it seems like every video game I play text or arcade..I end up where I need to enjoy playing the games out or I get bored...ala Mogul.

I simply don't have time to play out every game of my franchise in my fictional league. When I first started playing, I used to play out every game ... it was fun, but very time consuming. So I've established a practice where I will sim most games and select the so-called "Game of the Week" to play out. If things get exciting in September, I may play out more games. And when it comes to playoffs and World Series, play out if my team is there.

I also used to play every game, but now I play one game then sim the next two. If my lineup is all rested I will usually just "simulate day". If I have to juggle the lineup to work a backup in, I usually "Play" in order to get the lineup set up the way I want, then simulate inning by inning to complete the game. All playoffs and the last few series of the regular season (if they might make a difference) are played out.

I'm glad you suggested this poll.

I was under the impression that OOTPB was really slanted and skewed towards the simmers, who I thought were the great majority...but it look as if simmers have only a slight lead.

Maybe in OOTP7, more effort will be put in play-by-play text variety, put in all of the basic everyday plays that are currently missing, and a pitch-by-pitch mode.

Today was a great day for me...I had my first inside-the-park homer and also had the first throwing error at second base on an attempted double play.

I hope OOTP6 will have dropped throws, errors on bunts, all players catch foul flies and stealing home and stealing with two strikes...just to name some the the missing elements.

Yeah, it kind of surprises me that this many people always play out their games, not as skewed as I thought it would be....

I always play out the games involving my team. I like the personal touch and getting attached to some players, disliking some opponents. For me this is easier when I play out my games.

It's always nice to watch one of "my boys" reach a landmark or seeing a potential washout come back from the minors to surprise if only for a couple of games. Then you have the tragedy of injuries! I mentally cringe when a star pitcher has to leave the game and I spend the rest of the match worrying about him!

I picked "always sim" but really it's "almost always sim". There are rare times when I will play out a game. Usually one every couple of seasons. I did have a league going for a bit where I played out every game, but playing out games in OOTP is dreadfully boring and frustrating to be because of the lack of some of the most basic options (like the run&hit play). If the in-game gameplay were better, I might play more.

When OOTP 6 comes out I'm probably going to runs two leagues. In one I'll play every game and in the other I'll sim everything.
