Expanded talent ratings???

Am i seeing this wrong? It looks like in addition to the current ratings having different options for viewing (1 to 10, 1 to 100, etc), that the talent ratings do also. I know that for historical leagues, only having five talent levels is very limiting. The difference between a guy that hit .301 in his career and .340 in his career is very large and yet in the past they would both be GOOD. Does this mean that we have more "notches" for rating the future talent of a ballplayer? It was a request of mine for OOTP5 and I'm hoping its in OOTP6. So am I missing something or is that the way it will work?

That's a great question Stacy. Anyone know - are talent ratings still the same in V6 or expanded as well?

To me it looks like you'll be able to change the scale for both ratings and talent as per the first screen shot in the newsletter.

I was under the assumption that the actual ratings stay the same, but the way you view them is what changes...

So if you used 1-100, you'd have a much more accurate rating of a players skills (as seen by your scout) whereas is if you used the 1-10 range, there'd be a lot of "wiggle" room...that 6 rating could be anywhere from a 55 to a 64, you'd just not know...

I could be completely off though...I would like this explained further too...

Actually I have a further question. Currently when a player receives a talent increase/decrease, this is quite significant. (i.e. "Good" to "Average" etc.)

If we use the 1-100 scale for talent, what kind of talent changes will occur? A similar talent hit as above might be going from 75 to 50. Or will the talent hits be more discreet, a point or few points at a time?

I'm sure Henry or Steve can offer a more accurate answer, but I have a personal theory about how this works in OOTP5. I believe the real talent numbers are constanty fluctuating. The only time we ever get a message telling us in Player Development is when the numbers change enough to move from one category to another (like from Ave to Good).

I have noticed the ratings are constantly fluctuating on players. I have a pitcher always going from 6 to 7 back to 6 in hits. He's gone back and forth three times in one month. We all know there are "real" numbers the program is following. To me it stands to reason the talent numbers (represented as real numbers in the program that we don't see) would be fluctuating all the time as well.

So a guy dropping from Good to Ave may seem like a big drop as we watch Player Development, but in reality according to the code we we don't see he might really have only dropped like 5 points (on the 100 point scale). My best guess is we should be able to see this now with the expanded talent ratings. I'm interested to see if these new ratings might reveal a little more of the inner workings of the game.

I agree the current ratings are fluctuating in OOTP5, but I don't think the talent ratings are fluctuating in the same manner. They may take a talent hit up or down in a given sim, but wil not fluctuate outside of these "jumps". I know that once before when I suggested we go from 5 talent ratings to 10, it got shot down.
