Lightbulb Help needed for OOTP 6 :)

OK, I will soon code the new draft routines, and for that I need a little help. The generated players will include college and highschool stats. Now, I have no idea about college and highschool baseball, so I need some info:

How many games do college/HS play per year, and what are roughly the average stats? Also, how do great players perform relative to the average?

Thanks for the help!

Cheers,
Markus

PS: OOTP 6 screenshots later this week

Of the top of my head Markus, baseballamerica would be a great place to get college stats. And they perform well above the mean in high school than college, for obvious reasons- higher level of competition. For high school stats- I have little information.

I remember reading that most sucessful baseball hitters batted well over .500 on their high school teams, but this might be totally wrong. Maybe someone else could verify one way or the other.

It wouldn't be too surprising to see incredibly high averages in high school. Many high schools play ~20 games, so statistical extremes are exaggerated just as they are early on in the Major League season. Also, a really outstanding high school talent is probably going to be quite a bit above the average player in his league.

The teams I do play by play for average 27 games a season including playoffs. Most of the good players hit in the .500-.650 range although power numbers aren't usually up there. The best HR hitters on the teams I see around here usually end up around 12-14 HRs.

Back in HS, the only players that could hit homeruns were the ones who could make it around the bases fast enough before the OF could get to the ball... (no fenses).

By the way Markus,

Maybe you should make the draft so that some of the players you know ALOT about because you sent scouts out to their respected schools/region and other players you know little about except what rumors and reports you hear from others. Kinda how NCAA football video games work.

GOod Idea? Yes? No?

Daryl Strawberry hit over .700 in high school. I'm sure there are many others that did also.

For a typical high school season they will play about 30 games including the playoffs. Great prospects will hit greater than .500, greater than 12 homeruns, and around 40 RBI's. With Legion or some type of summer ball to play, where the talent is better and the average player is filtered out, stats will drop slightly and usually the great hitters will hit above .450 around 14 homeruns and a few more than 50 RBI's, while usually playing a 40 game season including the playoffs. Pitchers I think will be around the 2.00 for ERA and about 12 K's a game, but high school pithcers are mainly based on their future talent, and not what they show now, so it may take the kids a while before their stats get their. I've coached Legion baseball before so I tend to know a little about the high school boys. Hope this helps! Thanks for all your hard work!

Just read an article on Joe Mauer. As mentioned above he hit over .600 his senior season. Also, he popped out ONCE and struck out ONCE.

Thank you.

High school stats are nearly useless due to the amount of intrerpretation needed to understand them.

I'd rather draft a .450 hitter from the Cincinnati Public High School system than a .600 hitter from a smaller school outside of Dayton, because I know there is better caliber pitching at Moeller, Elder, Princeton High Schools...

Very good point, location and strength of league is a big factor!

Also, it would be cool if there was some way to see foreign players being implemented into the game, maybe through free angency. With the excitement that seems to occur every year with some new foreign player, it seems to be an important part of baseball now-a-days.

I would think some method of a scouting report would be better for HS and college instead of stats. There's so many varaibles as to how to interpret tham at these levels, I would think it better (and cleaner) to have the interpretation done by the game. It still doesn't have to be 100% correct.

To be honest, it would make such an improvement in drafting to those who wanted to play as close to 'stats only' as possible that I'd be more than willing to imagine a giant 'high-school' league which everyone played in facing the same level of opposition. Same goes for colleges.

At worst, you'd just pretend that a scout normalised the averages for you.
