Name file creation
Can someone explain to me name files? What I want, is to severly edit the current ones (some of them drive me nuts). Here is what I can determine so far...
There are 3 "sets" of name files afnames & anames, lafnames & lanames, and fnames and names. I assume a = asian, and la is latin american. I assume I don't have to have those nationalities in those files. I can pick other nationalities if I like. Is there a way to edit the frequency the a and la files are used (WAY too many of both imo). Thanks in advance.

If I really reduced say, the anames file, and had like only 50 different names in there. Would I get less asians, or just all my asians would have one of those 50 names? I assume the latter.

Nope it isn't working for me either. I wasn't aware they were having problems.
I think if you open the name files you will see a number beside each name. I think that number determines the frequency. |

But I assume that is frequency within that set of names. Like a 1 in an asian names file, only weights it with regard to picking an asian name, not a name overall.

Yeah if you have only 50 names the frequency of Asian names would remain the same, it would just pick among those 50. You would see the same number of Asian players but less variety in names. The numbers inside the file determine the frequency of the name inside the file.
Eg: Jones 3 Smith 1 Rogers 1 Jones would be picked 60% of the time the file is needed. Any questions, feel free to ask, I just played around with name files for a week

So any idea on how to lower the number of say asian born players in general?
P.S. Don't take this as a knock on asians, I just happen to use them as examples

You can change your Asian names list to include more American sounding names - however their origin will still be listed as Japan etc, when the game creates them. You can always edit the origin through the CSV export if that bothers you.
I am not sure what happens if the 'anames' and 'afnames' are not in your OOTP folder. You may try removing them from the OOTP folder and see if the game only generates names from files that are located in OOTP. I would make a backup though - removing the 'anames' file may also cause the game to crash. |

Yeah there's no real way to reduce the frequency that the chosen name file is chosen. Although I haven't tried it, I suspect deleting the asian name files entirely would be bad.
This is one of the more frustrating areas as you can't change the frequency or the initial origin of the players. You could do as blueturf suggested and put different ethnicity of names in there. The problem is that you would end up with Fujiki Smith or something strange sounding like that. I wish I could give you a better answer but it's a limitation of the engine

Yeah, deleting the anames file causes a crash...so thats bad. What I did...is I basically copied names and fnames and renamed them anames and afnames. Then I added a handful of realistic sounding names. Some of those Asian names were ridiculous IMO
