Cato problem

Hi

I used the cato program now for 4 seasons, had never a problem but now with the 5th season there is one:

When I import the files there is a error almost at the end. It´s something like this "Field ´PostPitching.Team´ is not allowed to be 0" (had to translate from german).

As I sad, never had a problem, only changed thing is that I contracted 4 teams and generated a schedule with "Stickware".

Suggestion: Look in the CSV files for a pitcher who pitches 0 innings and has 1 or more earned runs scored off him - it might be in the post season. You should be able to find the pitchers name by where the app crashes. This has been the most common reasons for the divide by zero errors, but as I found out with joncard recently, this may not be the only cause of the dive by zero errors (joncards issue is still unresolved).

I had one problem that gave me the same error. It was due to a pitcher who pitched in the postseason but who was released after the team was eliminated....it appeared the program didn't like the fact he didn't have a assigned team (due to be a FA) but having postseason statistics.

Thx Cow, maybe this can help joncard as well...

Ok, I found a pitcher (MR) who played in the PO and was released after his team was eleminated. So now, what should I do with this player?

I had the same issue. I had to go into the game, sign the player to his playoff team, generate the html files and redo the export. In that order I think...

I got past the error but ran into another one. The next one is about key information and too many rows in the update. I don't think they are related but I am still searching for that error on the site here.

That is the correct order. It happened to me too and that's how I fixed it. Turn off financials first and it won't cost the team extra money to get him back.

Anyone ran into the issue regarding "key information"? I think it happens during the adjusting fields step. It also says too many rows involved in the update. Does that have anything to do with the fact that I am importing 2004 stats as the first year when we really started in 2002? I just don't have the files that far back.

Yes, problem was solved (putting player on any team).

About the problem I PMed you: I will do the update in the next days, I will report then if it worked.

Thanks for all your hard work!

Heya, I have a problem with Cato as well, maybe it is easy and I can cancel my ticket so I don't bug Jeff. Here is a copy of my ticket..

Error Message: Data Provider or other service returned an E_FAIL status

What Screen: On getting histories while importing

Description: I am in year 2013 I believe and received that error message while importing. It comes as histories are being imported. My league file is 1.3 megs, so I don't think it will send, but I could e-mail if it does not.

Thanks for any help!

Well I decided to give the HTML another run, seeing as that error does allow me to finish the import. My first time I had a DB is locked error, but this time it is working. I wonder if I will have the same error next season when I run it.

I ran 2 more seasons and had the error every season. I started noticing some histories not showing up for players on my HTML pages as well.

Have you by any chance edited player histories in the past?

This is not the solution, but a useful work around that others in this forum have used for the E_FAIL error in player histories:
Turn player history off in Catobase (OOTP History).

Honestly, I think it looks cluttered anyway in OOTP History for veteran players and if you have edited your ootp player histories in the past you can get carriage return errors very easily if the OOTP formatting has not been duplicated exactly.

Also: Three other suggestions in a similar E_FAIL status error message posts in this forum, not sure if they are any help:
1. Make sure you installed OOTP history v4 so you get the MDAC installation. E_FAIL status errors are often attributed to older MDAC versions, though I'm not sure that is why they show up in OOTP History.
2. Make sure you use the CommishJoe CSV Exporter from the OOTP History site, not the most current BOSI version (that does not sound like your problem).
3. It's possible that older leagues (pre-OOTP5) where the player history files were not carefully maintained will cause problems when OOTP History tries to import these files. One symptom of poor maintenance is when a rookie player inherits a veteran players history notes.

"Have you by any chance edited player histories in the past?"

No, I tried to do as little as possible with this league to test the new version of catobase he put up. I drafted a fresh league in 2003 (league 2003.. I really did this all within in the past week) with the totalminors roster, the latest one I could find.

Then every year I made few trades, barely one per season. I simmed months at a time to breeze through years. At the end of every playoffs I exported the league to html right away before any cuts or moves were made. Backed up the league, and started cato.

With Cato I downloaded all the fresh updates, including commishjoe's from Cato's new site. Imported the league, and only imported AS and Awards. I didn't even change team names or managers for teh entire time because I didn't want to mess anything up.

I got to 2012 fine.. all perfect imports, html, etc. In 2012 the only difference was I made Pedro a Hall of Famer in Cato. I doubt that made a history error, but I just had to let you know of changes.

So then 2013 import comes and I got the error above when importing the history.

I think I may turn off history and keep it going from here on out, but I did like looking at the history on cato and seeing when they were drafted, and what round.. but that is minor. By the way, I know what you're talking about with the clutter look, but the patch or something he did recently moved history to the bottom of the page, so it isn't as cluttered.

YOu mentioned v4 for the MDAC. Does that mean I should install v4 then the latest 5.3.1?

Also, another question for you. I know you are very good at Cato's program.. how many seasons have you been able to import into it successfully without the program crashing? Thanks Killebrew!

Wise of you to be so careful with the league. As you have found out it's still easy to get errors no matter how careful you are.

When you first install Cato's program you should do the full install to make sure all the required system files are on your PC. At the www.jcato.net site this install version is found under the "Full Program v4 " link. Jeff's instructions state: "For a fresh install, download OOTPHist 4 Full Download and run setup. Then, download the update to version 5."

Only 12 seasons, but there is a regular poster here that has 100 years imported into the 'Catobase' program. I don't think the 100 years of cato history is online but I have seen some other online leagues with very large cato history archives.

About player history now at the bottom of the page: Neat, that's a great change, maybe I'll start outputting that info now.

Well, I continued running my league, and at the 2021 season, the history error went away, so it must have been something in someone's history who retired in 2020 that was causing the error. Not sure if there is a way to see who retired per year, I guess the best way would be to look through my cato pages on 'players' and look for guys who played 2013-2020. May be a hassle, but may be worth it.

So far I have 2003-2011 in my history file and I've only encountered one error and that was because a player who played in the post season was released and didn't have a team assigned to him. I've been lucky so far as not to get any of these other errors I keep reading about.
