Hello all! New user here (but longtime OOTP fan....)
I installed TBCB yesterday. Sadly, I've been getting the "invisible text" issue with the D3D version. Checked out the forums for advice - and found some messages involving it. However, all those people had old video cards (Voodoo3 and such) that barely support DirectX anymore. That AIN'T my problem. I have a GeForce4 4600ti on a P4 with almost a gig of RDRAM, the latest DX 9 install, and the latest Nvidia drivers (53.03). I have ZERO problems with D3D (or DirectDraw, for that matter) -- dxdiag has no issues (driver or test) and my system benchmarks just fine on the MadOnion tests. But I still get the invisible text. Now honestly, I'm perfectly happy with the non-D3D version of the program. And I don't think I'm really missing much, either. But it would be nice to have the full feature set working on my comp. Just wanted to inform you about this. I can post/mail system info if it would be helpful. One more thing -- not sure if it's a bug, but the refs seem to tolerate an awful lot of punishment in some fights. I had a guy go down six times in two rounds against a clearly superior and dominant opponent, but the ref just let him continue to get the $%&* beaten out of him. If anything, a "realistic" ref would bias towards stopping the fight prematurely, based on my experience..... |

I'd have to say it depends on the Ref, A modern ref for sure would stop the fight more often than not. But Just look at Dempsey-Firpo , Dempsey-Willard as just some examples of muliple knockdowns and the fight going on and on.

Point well taken. But I've been using contemporary refs like Joe Cortez and Mitch Halpern almost exclusively.
It seems as if the refs are good at stopping fights when the fighter becomes defenseless due to eye closure or bleeding, but not good at stopping fights because the fighter is lousy and getting creamed. Just an observation. It's probably too complex to code (and it's definitely off-topic), but it would be interesting if the game refs had a sliding scale for stoppage based on the relative skill ratings of the boxers. For example, fighting a Klitschko against one of the 1-level journeymen would result in the ref having a short fuse before stopping the fight, whereas a ref would tolerate more if Klitschko were fighting a Chris Byrd or Duncan Dokiwari. Just a thought. I'm more bothered by the D3D issue. And I forgot to mention that the game is fantastic! |

Response?
Did Andreas or any of his team ever get this issue resolved? I hate seeing this happen. Just leaves you shaking your head. I had a similar problem with a baseball sim back in '95. Then I had a brand new PC, but every time I played that game, round about the 3rd or 4th inning the announcer's voice would disappear and be replaced by a loud hissing and crackling. Only a couple other gamers had the same problem. The programmers tried everything to get that noise out of there, but no dice. I've got my fingers crossed that your problem will resolve itself.
