New problem with Cato

I have a historical league that started in 1901, I have now just finished 1906 and put the web page together using Cato. One problem, and it is a pretty big one....

First the real sim results are as follows....in the AL, the Philadelphia A's won the pennant and in the NL, the Brooklyn Superbas won the pennant. The A's went on to win the World Series 4 games to 1. The problem is that my web page shows two different sets of results for the Series.

On the NL league page that has the standings, the result of the Series is listed as Philadelphia Phillies over Brooklyn Superbas 4-1 (the Phillies really finished a distant 7th in the NL).

On the League Index page that shows the pennant winners and the Series winner in bold, the Series champion shows as the Phillies again (they are bolded) and the AL champion shows as the A's.

The only thing that was different this year was the A's had to play a playoff against the Boston Pilgrims to win the AL pennant, but that shouldn't have had an affect on anything. The only thing I can think of is somehow the team abbreviations got messed up when the page was created.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this??? My first guess would be to load the backup database up and recreate the HTML pages. However, will I end up with duplicate pages of the 1906 season since the pages have already been created once or will recreating the HTML pages overwrite everything that has already been done?

Thanks to all for your help.

If you have the database from before the problem you can recreate the pages, they will not duplicate.

If you don't have the database from before the problem you can edit the database. Just open the database and in the team stats table you can edit the info.

I have edited player stats this way with out problem but I have never tried to edit team stats

I have fixed the same team ID screwup Jabs describes, and I have done it by carefully editing the team stats table using Access 2000 as you describe here Sandstorm. Before any editing I would recheck all the team abbreviations in the Access tables or else this problem will come back next time you run the application. Make sure you always keep a safety backup of the league MDB after each time it is updated or run. If you are not comfortable with Access 2000 editing you could probably enlist some help from some forum regulars.

OK, first I tried recreating the pages to see if that would fix the problem, but it looks like I wasted an hour of my time while I waited for the pages to create...needless to say, this didn't work.

Now I want to edit the database, but one small problem. I don't have Access...thought I did, but I don't. Is there another program I can use to edit the database? Please help as I want to continue my league, but want it to be accurate as well.

Thanks everyone

I don't know if any other program will opem the database, but if you try to recrate the pages again you can turn off player pages this will save you ALOT of time and still give you most all of the information

Hi Jabs - you need to have MS Access 2000 to make any MDB file changes that OOTP History will recognize.

If you have some webaspace and some patience I may be able to help out later this week if you upload your zipped MDB file to your webspace and allow me to download and edit it (the file will be too big for email). Let me know via PM if you think that is possible.

Beyond that the only option I know of is to start over with Cato History (assuming you still have all the league files) or just accepting that there are a couple of errors on the team history related html pages.

Killebrew-

I do have a website and have uploaded a zipped MDB file to the site....I will give you am PM with the link to download the file.

One question though that anyone can answer if they know it...from your experiences, is this going to be a problem that will reoccur multiple times throughout my history sim? I just want to know if this is a common problem that I'm going to run into time and time again.

Thanks Killebrew and anyone else who has any info on this problem.

Killebrew-

I tried sending you a PM, but I got a message saying your inbox was full so I couldn't send it now. Let me know when you get some room and I will resend. Thanks

Couldn’t you modify the .csv files with Excel first? That’s the way I always reconciled different league outputs before putting them through Cato’s.

So if you want to edit the .csv files with Excel to fix the problem with the wrong teams being listed in the World Series, which .csv file do you edit? I looked at the team.csv file, and all the abbreviations looked correct in there....I looked at the postseason.csv file, but all that is in there is a bunch of numbers that don't make sense to me. I also looked at the schedule_game.csv and it showed teams 10 & 7 playing against one another in the World Series. I compared those team numbers to the ones in the teams.csv file. The Philly A's are team #7 and the Brooklyn Superbas are #10 so everything looks good there.

Satchel, let me know exactly what you have done in the past and I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the idea and the help
