OK, I am 2 months into a new career where I am managing each and every game for my team. Time consuming, but it puts a whole new spin on the game for me.
I cannot prove this is an actual bug, but I am convinced the Pitch Around Option does not work propoerly. When I want to pitch around a batter, I am more likely than not going to walk him, or he is going to take some chops at bad pitches. So the results should be many walks, a few strikeouts/pop/ground outs, and a few hits (but basically a lot of walks). Well, everytime I try to pitch around a batter, he ends up jacking one out of the park, or driving it to the gap for a double.....rarely do they walk......it seems like Pitch around = throw cupcakes down the middle of the plate. It is so bad that I won't Pitch Around anymore. Thoughts?

I haven't had this problem... in fact I get the results you describe as being desireable... (This through about 10 seasons worth of playing out games with OOTP3 and OOTP4)
If anything I find my pitchers either walking the player or retiring the hitter as he takes a hack at something bad.. so I often use this strategy against hitters on a hot streak or who tend to just kill me. (Unless I can not afford the walk (i.e. bases loaded)) So it looks like you just hit a bad run of luck.. or your pitcher was tired or not pitching very well to begin with... [ 06-05-2002, 11:50 AM: Message edited by: ScottVib ] |

I will experiment more with the pitch around option (in blow outgame for now ), but a bad run of luck would be 5-10-15 times, I am talking 40-50 times, and maybe 5 walks have occured.

My thoght on the bad run is that the batters seem to get hits off you, but they don't for me... (and others have reported similar findings when brought up in the past).
Keep in mind bad things are more likely to stick with you... so you'll remember the homers you've given up using Pitch Around longer than those given up normally.. The Pitch Around will increase chances for a walk, but not by enough (IMO) I have mentioned this on the board before (because I thought it was an exploit with all the success my pitchers have using it) and others stated that they though the frequency was proper... that Pitch Around, wasn't Pitch Around the plate, but merely Pitch Around the batters strengths.. |

I know that I had terrible luck in OOTP3 using pitch around while playing games out.
In OOTP4, I seem to do better if I set pitch around to normal or less, but I have only been simming seasons, not playing out the games one by one, so it makes for a pretty rough impression. I think this would make a good area for a careful study.
