I usually start checking it the end of the first week of May. Sometimes you will see guys be willing to negotiate earlier, sometimes even as early as spring training but that doesn't happen very often.

If the player is loyal he will probably, but not always, talk to you sooner. Usually late April. Other guys usually seem to wait till at least mid-May.

Too go along with this question, is there any advantages in waiting to offer a player a contract. Will his demands go down at all later in the year or anything of that nature?

I have found a couple loyal guys who signed cheap early in the year. Beyond that I don't know if there are other advantages or not.

I thought that a player's current year stats played a role in his salary demands, particularly if they're significantly better or worse than past performance or ratings would predict. Arbitration seems to work this way - players that have a great season get higher arbitration $ than listed for them at the beginning of the year.

If this impression is wrong, I'd like to know.

Stats do play a role in the contract demands. When I started my Tigers dynasty I looked to resign a player. I thought that the player wanted too much so I decided to wait. Turns out the player had a great year and when I went back to resign him, he wanted alot more than before. I have also seen it go the other way, if a player has a crap year, they will ask for less.

I usually check a players demands throughout the season to guage who I may want to try and re-sign. I've seen players, mostly pitchers, demand a lot one month then have a few bad starts in a row and all of a sudden their demands drop (significantly in some cases).

I thought salary demands were based more on retings than actual stats. Did this get changed? If so kudos to Markus!

Yeah, stats now impact the offers.
Yes this was added in by Markus in one of the patches some months ago...

They definitely matter. In the PWBL, Aaron Robinson was coming off a huge season and early in the season he wanted about 5.5 a year. This season he has had a very down season and I just re-signed him for two years at 3.8 per.
