I know that I'm going to sound really stupid here, and all you highly experienced computerers are going to look down and laugh at me, but I have a few questions about the Lahman Database.
First of all, will it allow me to have the most up to date rosters with the most up to date stats? Secondly, how do I use it? How do I import it into OOTP and play with it? Thanks for the help.

1. Not sure if the final version with 2003 stats is out yet or not, but definitely up to the end of 2002.
2. Go to the FAQ's Forum. There is a thread titled "How to create a historic league" It desrcibes how to import a season from the Lahman DB. 3. No such thing as a stupid question. |

Thanks for the response, but can't I just download a roster set with the rosters and stats updated to the end of 2002? Or am i missing something? Heh...
EDIT: Also, say I want to start with the most up-to-date rosters/stats, do I choose to start in 2004 or what? Last edited by vvac35; 12-30-2003 at 07:51 PM. |

There are roster sets available, most popular I believe are GForce and Rosco's.
Lahman is a DB that lets you import any season from 1901 onward. So if you wanted to replay 1961 for example, you could. Or you could start in 1925 for example and replay baseball history. There are some modified versions of the Lahman DB available also that address different issues. Try doing a search on the Mods forum for "Lahman", should give you plenty of reading and an idea what's what. |

Players imported with the Lahman Database have a lot of stats that are just randomly assigned...arm, range, character traits.
Basestealing ratings are not accurate...it is based on percentage of steals (a player who steals 2 out of 2 is rated better than one who steals 40 out of 60). Pitchers strikeout rating while batting is frequently wrong. (They many times are rated "brilliant" because their strikeout total is "0" for a season. The database doesn't know the reason the pitcher did not strike out that season is because no stats were kept for that category in that year.) THE STATS ARE FOR THE YEAR YOU IMPORT THE PLAYER...NOT HIS CAREER AVERAGE. Ankit's Career Average Database is better, but you also have to revise some ratings in it as well. I had to revise a lot of the ratings in order to get accurate ratings. This required a lot of research and time. Import some players and then compare their ratings with their stats in the Baseball-Reference database (www.baseball-reference.com). Import both pitchers and position players and look at the ratings. You will get some idea of how accurate the ratings are in the databases. Do a search on "Lahman Database" and "Ankit Database". This will give you some idea of the accuracy of each. |

Actually the roster set is Rocco's not Rosco
And use Ankit's modified database if you are going to start a league prior to 2002, he changed the fact that players come in at their first full year, so players who had a cup of coffee for two years won't be imported until their first full year, thereby making their stats more accurate
