Never tried this before....
I've played and enjoyed the OOTP4 solo game and I just got OOTP5 (which looks great by the way)
Can someone lead me to a FAQ or other thread that explains in some detail how online leagues work? What do I ned to have, how does the data for the various teams come together, how are the games simmed, etc. What I'd like is to get in an historical league, far enough in the past that we're not using fantasy players. I'd rather understand how it all works before stumbling into someone's league. Finally - are there costs for these leagues? How much? I have to figure that playing OOTP against real GM's would be an extra challenge over the solo game. Tom |

Best thing to do is join a couple of online leagues for while. Watch what goes on, ask plenty of questions.
As for costs, you need web space. There are some free sites available, and there are some you pay for. Both have their benefits. There are a couple helpful tips on the FAQ Forum about uploading files, but again, the best thing to do is join a league for a while and see how it works. You'll learn a lot that way and meet some great people. G/L....... |

I agree with Bruce. Join a league or two and get used to how the leauge works from a user standpoint. You'll learn a ton this way and probably become a much better commish because of it.
As for solo vs on-line leagues .. I'll sum it up my opinion with one sentence. I never play OOTP solo.

Actually I'm not really looking to be a Commish, just a GM/Owner.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. |

In that case, just watch this board for openings, or put yourself on the waiting list for some of the leagues you see in this forum. The commish will contact you when/if you get a team.
Good luck and enjoy!

Check out that thread. Historical league with no fantasy players. Just what you asked for. |

Tom,
Joining an online league as a GM won't cost you a cent, other than your own online time. About 3 years ago I wrote a tutorial about OOTP online leagues, and although a little out of date now because it was written in the days of OOTP2, the basic concepts still apply ..... http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...&threadid=5493
