When I Import all teams from FTP is proceeds without any problems or errors but doesn't seem to be updating the rosters. One owner noticed some changes he made that didn't take place...
I then had him upload to FTP again where I ran it in again but still not updating. I then went to the team screen and chose update team from FTP and it successfully brought the changes through. Do you need to update each team individually, I thought that the global button on the online league options page brought in and updated all teams that are available on ftp server? Edited - When I click on the import all from FTP server, then check the expimp folder within the league folder, not all the files come across from the FTP server all the time. They do if I do it from the team's setup screen? Needless to say, I'm a bit confused... [ 05-27-2002, 09:54 PM: Message edited by: blmeanie ]

dsl
I can choose the import from ftp option from the teams that have files up on the website and one by one they come across fine, its only when I choose the "import all" option btw - I'm using Tripod if that matters.

Currently there are 5 team files on ftp server, when I hit "import all" and watch from my hard drive location it is saving to, I see them coming across and then disappearing (deleting) or overwriting each other, not sure what is really happening.

Are you certain that each GM is using the exact same file as you are(same date I mean)?

Besides that idea I don't understand this one unless he was uploading while you were trying to import. I am not saying it is a user error here, but I don't recall other online leagues having this import problem. Since there are a lot of online leagues using OOTp4 I'd have to guess it is an issue related to correct league files or your server using a proxy or file caching (delays file updates by several hours). If it is the later problem then make the deadline for imports 6 hours before you sim and it should work fine.
quote:
Do you need to update each team individually, I thought that the global button on the online league options page brought in and updated all teams that are available on ftp server?

Yeah, you can do all imports at once - you don't need to individually import the roster files.
quote:
Edited - When I click on the import all from FTP server, then check the expimp folder within the league folder, not all the files come across from the FTP server all the time. As I mentioned above, perhaps the team screens allow improper roster imports but the global import does not (again, not impossible). I assume you realize that if you do anything with the leagues master league file after making the league file available to GM's for download then chances are good the roster exports from these teams won't import properly into the master league on your hard drive. That may not be what is happening but mentioning it in case it's a factor here. Does your league have a website? Maybe I can study the league file for clues (that's a longshot but still a shot).
quote:
Originally posted by blmeanie: Bump- Still having problems with the "import all teams from FTP" when I click on the button, I get 2 or 3 of the teams out of 7 or 8 usually there. I think the export files remain in the ftp driectory until an owner ftp's his new rosters and overwrites the old file at the ftp site.
quote:
Currently there are 5 team files on ftp server, when I hit "import all" and watch from my hard drive location it is saving to, I see them coming across and then disappearing (deleting) or overwriting each other, not sure what is really happening.

Yeah, they should be overwriting the old team files on your local hard drive - that is what is supposed to happen. Good luck here - give us a league link if you can and maybe more idea's can be generated that way. |

pretty sure - again the uploaded team exports are sitting on Tripod's site in my folder. I see the time stamp and everything. I can even manually import each team one by one from the team setup screen and it works fine, changes are made.
The only problem seems to be when I import all. Could my firewall have anything to do with this? (ok...I'm reaching on this...) Killebrew- when you mention that if any changes are made to the master league file between creating the file for the owners and receiving back their exports for the next sim , do you mean ANYTHING? I am under the impression that I can do anything I want to any team once I receive their export back. For example - once I create the downloadable league file for everyone, I make my changes for my team in the league right away. I also get some teams replies quicker and process them when I get them. Again- I understand that if I make any roster moves or adds/deletes for a team I haven't received back yet, I probably have screwed it up. But I find it hard to believe that if I make changes to team A it has any effect on team B. League website is green monsta Thanks for the help!

I mean player trades, player editing, finance editing, league setup & options changes, player releases, outside OOTP utility editing of the league, and simming (even an off day) are things you should not do until all the roster exports you expect for that sim have been imported. It's possible even your own teams roster changes need to be uploaded to the server, although maybe not as long as you create an EXP file for your team. I have not really tested all this stuff out, but that is how the game is supposed to run in order to prevent unethical play .I'll check out your league file for further idea's too - I have seen a lot of trouble lately with file upload delays for some online GM's, depending on where they are and their ISP's cache setting. This is a pretty complex issue if it's related to your troubles. The league file for some GM's can be delayed by up to 6 hours if this problem occurs. The best workaround is probably giving each league file a unique name (like the league date or sim number) and GM's allowing some delay time before they can download the file. |

Thanks Killebrew, I really do appreciate your effort.
Can't seem to get the fact that the files can be imported fine one by one out of my mind... If there were a problem with versions of the files I wouldn't be able to pull them through one by one... Good idea about the different names for the files, I will begin doing that at a minimum. The good news in all of this - I have only had one team for one sim have an issue with their roster not having been updated properly. That was the wake up call to the problem but I have managed somehow to get everybody updated since then. Thanks again and if you want to get on the waiting list (despite this problem) let me know (lol)...

blmeanie - it's a pretty sweet looking league there, and check out the travel time for Albuquerque (Calgary, Vancouver, and Edmonton in the same Division)! I like the historical players with fictional teams angle.
Anyway, I did some tests and found that I could successfully import my ftp site rosters that I created and upped using an older league file (from the previous sim). That means that errors would not necessarily show up when importing from each individual team screen. That's about all I can do though, not sure how to test the commish settings for importing all rosters at once. Maybe someone that is commishing could test this out - just be careful to not screw up your league doing a test .Good luck there & make triple sure the GM's use the correct league file just in case that is the problem after all .

Thanks for the kind words about the league...we've got a great bunch of owners too (with about 5 or 6 newbies).
Thanks for the attempts to find the problem, I will keep after the owners to make sure and also provide a file with the date in the name. Thanks,

You gotta love this one:
Ran sim last night, have received one updated team file on the ftp server one via email (different teams). I move the email one into the expimp folder and process into the game (no problems). I go to import "all" from ftp to pull the other team that is available and take a look at the contents of the expimp folder while it is importing and watch as the 1st team's exp file disappears... now my folder has neither team's file in it... There aren't any ftp virus running rampant across the globe are there? I have concluded that as long as I import each team individually I am fine... THE REALLY GOOD NEWS - the league will be moving shortly to the OOTP league server and will try FTP all over again.
