Would anyone be interested in an unfinished, relatively untested character editor with a command line interface?
So far you can only modify RPG Abilities, but I'm working (slowly) on allowing editing of Baseball Abilities. Editing of current skill levels, money, items, and a graphical interface may follow depending upon the level of interest and my level of motivation. [EDIT] First version finished. It allows the editing of RPG Skills and baseball abilities for both hitters and pitchers. See below post for the download attachment. Brett Last edited by Brett; 12-24-2003 at 08:39 PM. |

I CANNOT believe that every f****** game every produced has to have a cheat or a trainer.
PLAY THE DAMNED GAME! MAN! Go ahead and edit the game, give yourself a .800 batting average and 200 home runs in a year. What will it prove? That you cheated? What a sad, sad place we live in. |

Is it so bad that we have to called the world a "sad, sad place". Is it wrong that some people like to get a chuckle when they see thier stats are ".800 BA and 200 HR's"?
Why is it so wrong if people want a cheat or trainer? Why do we have to be so critical about those who do what they want with what they have bought? Sometimes it's just fun to create a monster and watch him terrorize pitchers or hitters. Maybe Brett is starting out as a programmer and wanted to try his hand at creating a trainer for this game. Maybe this is the same way Markus got his start? |

![]() What will it prove if you don't use trainers? That you didn't use it? I like to read the story before seeing a movie. I don't mind knowing the results before watching a tape-delayed game. I don't mind using trainers instead of going through some boring routines to finish a game. Actually, I used to play about a dozen new games a month back in college, I wouldn't be able to finish 10% of them if not for all the editors and trainers. I know there are people who'd "enjoy" games by following certain guidelines and rules. That way the game would take longer to finish. For me, that's just torture. I'd rather give up.

I'd like something to bump up some of my numbers "just enough" to use some of the better equipment. I'm 80 Contact, 90 Power, 80 Eye, 50 Gap. Obviously, I'd like higher Gap, if only to be consistant.
I'd also like to bump up my defense 1 or 2 points. And my stealing about 3 or 4 points. |

I typed up a lovely long diatribe (look it up) against cheaters and hacks.
...and deleted it. I ain't going to change you guys, and you sure as hell won't change my mind. Sooooooo, have fun with your character building cheats/trainers/hacks, etc. Last edited by dsvitak; 12-24-2003 at 06:52 AM. |

I simply do not see the harm in "cheating" in a single player game.

But the crime would be the lying part, not the using editor part.

I agree that using an editor is kind of pointless. One can create their player any way they want.
On the other hand, getting pissed about the desires of others is even more pointless. Especially, in a single player game. Like Skipaway mentions, telling others that, for instance, "my player hit 90 homers and batted .453," and then saying "No, I didn't use an editor," when in fact they did, is the most pointless of all. So, if editors become used often, people should start posting their stats with the 'I'm using an Editor/I am Cheating' caveat added to them. |

Before using this editor, you'll need to Start a New Career and export your character to a file.
Then, drop the executable into your ITP directory and run it. Enter the name of the character file at the prompt (for example, Brett.chr) and then follow the instructions. Once the editing is finished, a new character file will be created with "_edit" appended to the original filename. Just import the edited file on the Character Creation Screen. Couple of notes: I haven't tested this nearly enough. The character's talent levels and RPG abilities are edited correctly, but the effect those values will have on the game haven't been fully determined. It does seem like creating a "super" character (at least for a pitcher), will result in some strange statistics. Lastly, this editor may contain faults, defects, or bugs that could cause loss of information, incorrect data, or damage your game. The use of this editor is at your own risk. Please let me know if you have any feedback, bug reports, problems, etc . . . [Edit] Thanks, MetsKid, that's good feedback. Fixed. Brett Last edited by Brett; 12-24-2003 at 10:35 PM. |
