The FOF2001 release! That brings back memories.
First up, EA screwed up and made it available to download before it was supposed to be released. Several people bought the game at this point, then were forced to return it hours later. An EA representative called FOF Central visitors "pirates" and threatened to cut us all off..... When the release finally came around, sometime in November 2000, halfway through the football season, the game was quickly withdrawn from sale due to another licensing issue. Finally it was re-released a few days later.

since we're talking FOF I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on where that series is going...
It seemed for a while that text-based simmers were in heaven with OOTP for baseball, Eastside for hockey, and FOF for football...but it seems to me that FOF just isn't growing anymore... Is this because of EA Sports? Did Jim make a mistake by getting into bed with EA? While the College Years was OK, it just didn't measure up to the earlier versions (for me)... Any word on an updated version of FOF anytime soon? That game started with such a bang, much more than OOTP did I think, but with each subsequent release, I think OOTP has fleshed out new features and refinements much better than FOF... Kevin |

On FOF, I do not post over on the board but from my lurkings I gather the following:
EA owns the code to the FOF series that they produced. This means no updates/bug fixes for last year's version or this year's. Jim cannot make another FOF pro football game nor is he in the loop anymore with the pro football series. TCY was, imo, an excellent game unless you wanted it to mirror the NCAA. No telling what the future of Solecismic is. Jim is tight lipped on what his next project will be. He far exceeded his expected sales for TCY so that might be a good bet but mere speculation on my part. Chris

Since EA took over the game don't expect many enhancements.
FOF2002 was released, but in typical EASports fashion it is merely a roster/graphic update and I heard introduces a new bug into the game. Other than that no difference, just an excuse to get people to shell out money for a "new" game that didn't cost them anything to develop, since they didn't add anything (ok, so it cost them minimum wage to hire an intern to type in the new players names and attributes). |

My belief is that they are either going to let it die, or try to incorporate it into Madden, like BBM was incorporated into one of those arcade-like baseball games I never bought. With major realignment and expansion coming up, they've got to make SOME changes if they are going to release it again next year.
The good news is that Jim still owns the code for the original FOF, so were he to pick up where that left off, he could introduce a rival football sim of his own. Given the lack of an up-to-date professional football sim in the market, I really think he could fill a void that EA has left, and he has a head start and a number of rabid fans to buy such a product. Football Mogul was terrible, and given the lack of improvement with BBM over the past 3 years, I doubt a new FBM would be any better than its predecessor. Chris |

I believe Jim mentioned he has a non-competition clause where he cannot make any more pro football games (at least for a period).

Boy...I hope Jim made out well financially on that deal at least...
For some reason TCY just never captured me...the recruiting process just wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be...oh well...in two days I won't even remember what football is... Kevin |

I still play FOF 2001 more than any other game I own.
