Running Slow

I just purchased the game. I am running the game on an older machine. It is a Toshiba laptop with a 1.1GHZ Celeron processor and 256 Meg of ram. It is running on Win XP.

When using the normal icon, the game runs extremely slow. If I run with the no direct 3d icon then it runs better, but it is still slow to respond to my mouse clicks. I ultimately end up clicking options multiple times because I don't know if my mouse click did not take or if it is simply taking a long time to run.

I have tried turning off the sound and I did not notice any notable difference. I am pretty certain that I have directx9.

I do have a very slow Internet connection so if the game requires an internet connection while playing, is it possible that this could be causing my slow downs?

Once a round starts, the action seems to move at a reasonable pace. It is simply a nightmare to select my prefight and options in between rounds.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have the same problem. Let me know if you come up with a solution and I'll do the same.

An internet connection is not required while running the game unless you click a Boxrec link for fighter profiles. Even then a connection is not necessary prior and should be initiated once the link is clicked for the first time.

To verify which version of DirectX that you are running simply click Start then Run and type in "dxdiag" without the quotation marks. The last line under System Information will reviel the version number. The latest build is DirectX 9.0b and can be downloaded via the Windows Update accessed via the Control Panel on the left side of the screen.

Another step in helping speed up the game would be to make certain that you have absolutely nothing running in the background. A fresh boot without any added programs like anti-virus or background image software will help a lot. Also, make sure that your screen saver is disabled since they tend to start and run in the background behind the game without you even knowing about it.

Try those suggestions and see what happens.

I just installed the game on a Toshiba Protege R100, and got the same problem. The mouse click respond is just very very slow.

The problem here seems to be that those portables don't have any graphics acceleration hardware. With old graphic adapters, which usually have very little RAM, it's just slow to load and display the background pictures.
