OU falls to #3 in AP & ESPN polls
1. USC
2. LSU 3. OU That's the ranking in both polls. Personally I"d have loved to see Michigan ahead of OU in both polls since it'd pull OU out of the national championship game most likely. However this sets up the stage for the BCS to explode. You have 3 1-loss BCS teams, all believing they should be in the national championship game. As well you have 3 1-loss non-BCS teams in TCU, Miami (OH), and Boise State two of which can easily cry foul that at the end of bowl season because of having the same loss total as the crowned national champion. I also wonder if in fact USC does get jipped and not get in the national title game, if they'll pull out of the BCS. They're already against the whole BCS process from my understanding. That in effect would create a majority in the non-BCS schools favor. This could be an interesting off-season. |

Michigan ahead of OU? Put down the crack pipe.
I don't think OU should have fallen to #3. I would have still had them #1 despite their loss...I mean, they lost to a team that when healthy was the preseason #5 ranked team. And now they were healthy again. OU deserves to be in the championship game. |

This really is the BCS doomsday scenario: Poll A and Poll B both have the same team as #1, yet that team likely won't get to play in the "championship" game. What I'd really like to see happen is one of those rich, eccentric types like Mark Cuban or the Maloof brothers pay the winners of the Oklahoma-LSU and USC-Michigan games about $20 million each to face off in the real national championship. If there was enough money involved, this could totally happen.... not that it will, obviously. As it stands now, if USC wins in the Rose Bowl there will be a split champion again.... and if the coaches were allowed to vote, it wouldn't even be a split - a USC team that beat Michigan would just be #1. The BCS is in trouble..... they forgot to include the most important provision - when the two polls agree on the top two teams, those two teams face off for the title. Duh......

Put down the crack pipe. There is absolutely no way on God's green earth that they deserve the championship game more than USC or LSU. . . both conference champions. But college football and the BCS, in their infinite wisdom, will more than likely match up OU in that game. And the chant for reformation will be stronger than ever. Especially if OU gets smashed in the Sugar Bowl. Miami/Nebraska anyone? Now that was quite the championship game was it not?

I personally hope OU gets trashed in the Sugar Bowl by LSU. Just to cause a greater stir.
I think we may be seeing the beginning of the end of the BCS. USC needs to create a stir here if they get left out. |

The Rose Bowl would have the Pac-10 and Big 10 champs: Michigan and USC. And the Sugar would get: the SEC champ and and at-large bid: LSU and Oklahoma.

I think the difference is USC could still play for the national championship in the Rose Bowl under the old system, under the new one even if they win the Rose Bowl they have no chance at a national championship.

The Trojans didn't have as tough a schedule as OU, so I can see how the bowl projections show OU still in the title game.
HOWEVER.... If you're not the best team in your conference, you shouldn't have the right to be in the title game. Period.

What if you are the best team in your conference? I think OU wins that game 7 of 10 times. I don't think USC or LSU would have done any better than that.
You should be penalized for WHO you lose to, not when in the season you lose. The championship game should be the two best teams...what does it matter if they win the conference based on a championship game? I thought we didn't have a playoff. Doesn't matter...still #1 in the BCS. |

There's still a national championship game this year - it's just that now it's the Rose Bowl, not the Sugar. If USC wins, we'll have the same split national championship we used to.

Personally, I think it was the best way to finish the season. It would have been better to throw fuel on the fire if TCU was able to stay undefeated. Up with chaos! |

After USC (who doesn't go to the title game because Auburn and Notre Dame SUCK), Miami of Ohio got the biggest shaft. Top 10 in BCS, and they get to go to the GMAC bowl. What a prize!

I think Northern Illinois got the biggest shaft. 10-2 and no bowl? And they beat (at least) two teams going to bowl games?
How is the Rose Bowl the national championship game? WTF? If Michigan wins it, should they be #1 overall? Eckstein, are you a USC fan? Give us your biases here so we can understand where you're coming from. Me...I'm just a fan of good football. |

Well I think its BS that OU is still going to the title game after the BCS standings were released they are still in 1st place after they get clubbed like that. They dont even win their division and they still go to the title game, something wrong with that

Marlins go to the title game without winning their division too. How did that happen!

Seriously I find it funny that drprestwood is a "football fan" yet seems so arguementative to anyone disagreeing with his opinion .... bottom line is any team that doesn't win their conference doesn't deserve to be in the championship game in college football .... any arguement involving other sports is moot since they all have playoffs .... if USC beats Michigan then we WILL have a split national championship ... the writers are not obligated to vote for the BCS winner and they will not remove USC's #1 ranking if they win .... BCS is crap and doesn't solve the championship issue go LSU and go USC .... I'm not a fan of either but I am a football fan and a split national champion gets us that much closer to a playoff
