Releasing Players

I have Joe Schmoe on my team. He's a 13 major league veteren. He's signed to a 5 million per year contract for 3 more years. He isn't earning his 5 million salary. I want to release him. Do I have to pay his salary for the next three years, even if I release him???

Package him with some good prospects and maybe someone will take him off your hands

You will have to pay the remainder of his contract (amount x years left) in one lump sum. But, it isn't subtracted from your cash. It's added to player expenses which is subtracted from your revenue at the end of the season.
