This topic started in OOTP4 comments, I just wanted to start a thread in this forum so it gets the proper attention. It's not happening to everyone so it is probably system-specific. Hopefully with diverse input, we can figure out what the problem is.
Here's the original thread. So we know it's not related to the 100% usage thing, since some people aren't experiencing problems. Could it be related to directx? I wouldn't know why, just brainstorming here. I'm runing dx 7.0. My system: PII 400 256MB RAM Win98SE 716MB/10Gig freespace. I will try freeing up some HD space first, but I doubt that's the problem since others have lots of free space and still experience the lag. [ 04-04-2002: Message edited by: JML ]
|

Directx is an interesting idea. I don't know how much OOTP relies on DX aside from the hardware accelerated graphical mode.
I'm _not_ experiencing lag using 4.0c beta. Athlon Thunderbird 1.4gHz Abit KT7A Mboard PNY 256mb PC133 RAM 20GB Seagate 5600 RPM ATA 66 HD PNY GeForce 4 Ti4400 128mb DDR RAM Turtle Beach A3DStream Windows 98 First Edition Directx 8.1 1GB static swapfile on same partition as game Detonator 27.42 1024x768x16 Resolution No problems in full screen/window or D3D/software graphical modes. I also run SecureCRT, IE 6, multiple instances of 606Tab's spreadsheet program and the latest version of Winamp. No slowdown at any time, I'd estimate that it takes less than 3 minutes to simulate an entire season without human intervention. I would expect some slowdown with how little system RAM I have and all of those applications open, especially in Win98, but everything is smooth. Also, as of 4.0c I'm seeing a 15 degree drop in my CPU temperature which is a good thing (140F in OOTP 4.0b even when the program is idle vs. 125F when doing serious number crunching now). Edit: added HD/swapfile information Jason [ 04-04-2002: Message edited by: Jason Moyer ]

I have slow down:
P3/866 Win98SE 256MB RAM running Dx8.1 1.5gig free on HD | ATI Radeon 32MB DDR Running OOTP4.0c (but had slowdown with ver 4.0b as well) with Dx and full screen OFF. Edit: Clean Taskbar, except for screen saver client (Seti@Home), an HP printer driver, and Norton AV. 77% free resourses now. [ 04-04-2002: Message edited by: SSG Troyer ]

Jason

I use Athlon 1.4 (or 1.6) GHz processor, and I've experienced minor lag. Essentially, I'm sometimes victim of the hitting '1' twice and having the program react slowly. Its possible I'm just hitting the keys too quickly, however with all the reported incidents that looks unlikely.
