Trying to use this program and following all instructions.... I tarnsferred all the files from my laptop to my desktop where I keep the program...

WHen I try to cerat the CSV files I get an error saying can not read player.dat or team.dat files...

ANyone know what this issue is and how to fix it...

Also where should I be directing the CVS files.

This is a task that is run before actually using Catoi History, and you need CommishJoe's CSV exporter for this job. CommishJoe's CSV exporter is a group of small applications and the explaination for how to run them can be found here:
http://bosi.jpbaseball.com/help/csv.php

Some of that info is for BOSI alone, but much is simply how to run the programs. Cato's readme for the OOTP History program might add some further info to this process.

Generate the CSV files where ever you want them, just remember where they are since you have to provide this path for the Cato History program.

That likely seems more complicated than this process actually is, IMO the most concise instructions I have seen are the Cato History readme and the instructions with CommishJoe's CSV Exporter.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response...

This part is workign now... but the next problem is imprting the stats... I open the file and hit import and I get different erros each time...

I know this is not very detailed, but that is all I can tell... one error is "file already open"....

Any suggestions to help me save my league woudl be appreciated.

Thanks.

I am assuming you have completed the CSV file creation with CommishJoe's utilities and are now using OOTP History to import these CSV files - if I am in error please provide more details.

If you have the CSV file open in MS Excel then you would get that file open error, not sure how else that would happen but regardless, you don't actually need to open the CSV files with anything at all unless there are CSV errors. To be on the safe side I would have all other programs (except for OOTP History) closed when you are doing the import of the CSV files. You will not get that particular error then.

As for the other errors, you will have to describe them before solutions can be provided, good luck Nugget!

I don't want to jump on other threads, but I also don't want to create another cato thread, so sorry for asking my question on your thread.

Anyway, when I try to create the HTML, I get 'Error 13: Type Mismatch' as it tries to create the 'League Pages - Fielding Registers' page.

Has anyone had that problem before? I tried to shut it down and re-create the HTML like 5 times already, all jamming on the fielding page. Thanks!

I looked for this error and could only find this unanswered thread:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...+Type+Mismatch

That means this is likely a rare/unique error so I would go back and double check you are using the correct programs with the correct version of OOTP, and following all the steps accurately.
1. If you are using OOTP5 I'd suggest using the latest version of the Cato App along with the version of CommishJoe's CSV Exporter that Jeff Cato stores on his website (http://www.jcato.net/downloads/index.html), many people get errors when they use the Commish Joe apps that were upgraded for BOSI use.

If you already were using the correct apps listed in #1 then the next thing to try is:
2. Double check the steps described in the Cato readme (http://www.jcato.net/downloads/history/readme5.html) - were there any steps that might have had some issues or stuff you were unsure on? If yes the source of this unique problem may be related. Also make sure you are doing one season at a time ("At this point, you can click Create HTML Files, or you can repeat these steps for the next year").

If all was okay for #2 above I would then look at the error in more detail:
3. Very important - find out exactly where the crash occurs and find out what html has been generated already. Often an application will error on a new section of commands but state the error as the last thing it completed, and in this case that would mean looking at fielding issues might be a wild goose chase - maybe the problem is what OOTP History is trying to generate next (hmmmm, that is the teams trade pages no? hmmmm....). If the error is on the next section of application code then maybe you can simply choose to not output the problem data (I forget all the OOTP History output options but there are quite a few).

Failing all that I'd ask a few general troubleshooting questions before taking a look at the data in the fielding table.
- Did you have to manually edit any of the html files from OOTP or any of the CSV files?
- Did the OOTP game generated html come from a league at exactly the pre"proceed to next year" phase?
- Did you switch versions of either OOTP (IE: OOTP4 to OOTP5), Cato History, or CommishJoe's CSV Exporter apps during the period of time you began working on the latest seasons update of Cato History?
- Have you successfully run Cato History on this league before?
- Was there any very strange events in your league, like creating a lot of players then deleting them etc.?

If none of that gets you closer to the cause of the problem maybe we could arrange it so that I could look at the DB - that has been successful with several users already, although I caution that it has also been unsuccessful with several users already. Conversely, if you had MS Access 2000 you could also look at the data. Unless you have a very good idea of what you are looking for it is almost impossible to manually find the error (my kingdom for the VB source code), but if you know exactly where the error occurred the problem data can usually be found, good luck!

I redid everything and double checked, still getting the error right as it finishes Pitching registers and starts on fielding.

However, this time I did notice I got some errors as I imported, I get...

after copying the data, before trade info, near the end of the import process this error: Application-defined or object-defined error.

Then when it tries to get player histories this happens: File already open

I assume those are probably the reasons I get the html error. Thanks for your help!

I can't figure out the problem

I have had a full franchise on cato before, but this is the first time trying since upgrading OOTP to the latest patch. Could that have something to do with it? Did OOTP history release any patches for that, or did the transition go over smoothly?

Thanks!

Ok I looked into it a bit more, and this is what I found out..

my .lg file isn't producing a trade.dat, I don't know why.

Also, I took one of my old files, and did a test run through and had no problems at all. The differences between this league and the old ones are that I just created this, set all teams to computer, and ran the season through. I didn't manage any teams because I wanted to build a little history before I jumped in as the GM. I assume that caused it to not make a trade.dat as well.

Is that a known thing where you need to make GM moves in a season in order for CATO to work? Thanks!

More details needed here, please answer the following questions as best as you can:
1. What do you mean by "I import my database", anotherwords, according to the Cato readme (http://www.jcato.net/downloads/history/readme5.html) which exact step are you referring to?
2. Does "and get back to the screen in order to Create HYML pages" mean going back to the main OOTP History screen that has the large buttons saying "Import Stats" etc.? Where are you going back from - what weree you doing previously?
3. "When I click this" --> when you click what?

Thanks.

After doing a bunch of testing, it seems my problem may be ootp itself. Every new league I create now (after the patch probably) seems to have the same error, but I can use Cato's on every .lg file created prior to the patch.

Anyone else having this problem?
