It's safe to say that Watty Lee from the 1903 Washington Senators was a little wore out after the season:
[code] GP GS W L S ERA 73 73 30 41 0 0.55 </pre><hr></blockquote> Yes, 73 starts. One of the other Senator pitchers got injured that year and Watty took the blunt of it. I don't think anyone will be approaching his single season losses, GS or IP records! My concern lies in the # of ER. After he gave up 256, the number rolled back to 0 and started over. So, instead of an ERA near 4 it turned into a 0.55 ERA.

Forgive me if this has been exhausted, but I started my first 'Historical' league last night, and I'm a little baffled by a similar situation.
I started my league in 1974, the year I was born. After sucessfully setting the league up, I looked at the career leaders board to see if it counted stats prior to 1974. I was impressed to see the batting average leaders, home run leaders, etc. until I got to pitching. Nolan Ryan had a career ERA of 0.05 or something like that with a couple thousand wins, and Charlie Hough was right there with him with a 0.06 ERA. Is this a known bug in the Database? Or in the game? Or did something download funny? I wondered at first if it had to do with the abnormally long careers these pitchers had, but the Neikro's looked okay. Anyone know what gives?

I remember seeing posts about this before on both Ryan and Hough. It is a problem within the database. I think there were a couple other pitchers in the same era affected. Perhaps someone else remembers who they were.

Chappy,
I noticed the same thing on my import from 1969 - if you look at Nolan Ryan's career stats his 1966 numbers are really wacked out and that skews the entire career stats. I have been trying to figure out where in the database the records are messed up, as I think that must be the problem. If I can find anything more out I'll post it.

Yes, I had Deacon McGuire retire in 1906, with a record of 85-85, an ERA of 0.04, and 321,851.79 innings pitched. Wow! He must have done a lot of mop-up work.

Sure enough, Ryan's stats are wrong in '66 and Hough's are wrong for '70.
I tried opening the database in my lame freebie microsoft software that came with my computer (both database and excel) but it says the file is too large. Anyone know if I can edit it another way?

I can open it in Excel 2000 but the entry for Ryan in '66 and Hough in '70 look to be accurate. So maybe it isn't a problem with the database. I'm going to try modifying the entries and importing it again to see if that makes any difference.

I tried editing the Lahman 'pitchers.csv' file with Excel2000 - edited the 1966 entry for Nolan Ryan, and then imported the 1969 Mets single team, but the game crashed when it tried to import Ryan. When I backed the database back up with the original file it imported correctly but still had the error for Ryan in his '66 stats.
I'm at a loss now, so I don't know what else to do other than start my import in 1965 and have Ryan import as a rookie with no stats. Anyone else have any ideas?

Just confirming there is earned run rollover in the game that can cause some ERA errors if a pitcher is in extreme circumstances like you discribe. Upping that ER rollover point would be a nice thing if it was not too hard.
