Twice now I've tried to complete a trade and gotten the comment "We cannot afford the contracts of the offered players" when it seemed rather wierd.
In one case I was offering a prospect on a Minor League Contract for a $4m salaried player. Now it might have been a bad trade but that shouldn't have been the stated reason. The second time I saw this was when the money was around $350,000 for the player I was offering, against $3,000,000 for the player I wanted. I noticed that they had only about $328,000 cash available. It seems like the AI was deciding it couldn't afford my player without calculating what it would save on not paying the player it was trading. The AI determines how much cash is available from it's expected earnings for the next year I believe. It's kind of a pain in the a$$ but it prevents from dumping high salary players in trades for low salaries. I like it because when I get aggravated with a high priced player he is tough to get rid of.

The AI's salary costs come down if he makes this trade. If he can afford to pay the player he has over the next year I don't understand how he cannot afford to pay a player with 1/10th the salary instead. Yet, he's the one telling me he cannot afford the cost of the new player. It doesn't make sense to me. Regards, matt |

I agree with that, If I'm offering to take an old, overpaid player off the other teams hands, in exchange for a minor league player with no salary, I should be able to do it.

Thanks, matt |
