Angry I am so sour on boxing

Boxing, as unfortunately witnessed last night, is the garbage sport that many critics claim it to be.

I would go on, but what's the point of debating or disussing this one when a guy fights his fight, sticks his jab, lands more power punches, never goes down, throws more, has a higher connection percentage, lands about 100 more punches, is the defending champ, and still can't get a decision?

Again, I ask, what is the point?

I can only do my part here, and that is simple. I will no longer be supporting boxing in anyway, shape, or form. No more roadtrips to the IBHOF in June, and on and on and on. PPV will never get my money again, and I buy them all! I will not attend matches; hells bells, I'm not even going to watch the free fights on ESPN and NBC.

Sure there have been bad decisions before but this one is up there with the worst. And good for me, it's just in time to prevent me from wasting any more dough on it.

Last night was the WORST judging of a fight I have ever seen, Oscar beat Shane easily and for anyone who says different needs to take off the homer glasses.....

Terrible, i dont think i have been so angry about a decision in recent years, I mean i've been angry but that was just blatently fixed, they would have been pushing there look if one of those judges were to back Sugar Sham.

Can't believe it, there should be a national uproar over gettin this decision overturned.

Shocking and Sickening.

At first i was like oh my god i can't believe this decision. lucky me i recorded the fight that night i watched the fight roun by round and this how i had it, May i add i had 4 friends who judge the fight with me as we did it rounf by round all thought oscar won like me.

Round_Oscar_ Shane
1 10 9
2 10 9
3 9 10
4 10 9
5 10 9
6 9 10
7 9 10
8 10 9
9 9 10
10 9 10
11 9 10
12 9 10

And before i knew it i had shane winning! Im like wait a minute, if you look at the fight round by round shane does win. my firiends had it 7-5 6-5 8-4. we did not talk doing the judge ment we all sat in diffrent positions so we couldn't see each other card, and we just focus on the fight. Shane beated this man and a couple of times i thought he was going to get knocked out like the 9th and 12th round, oscar was winning the fight from 1-5 but after 5 it just looked like oscar was losing. And M<ax from espnm friday night fights had it 8-4 shane, so did the other guy who be with him. 4 of the 5 writers had shane winning, Roy , lennox and byrd had shane winning. And Now that i watched the fight round by round shane won.

http://msn.espn.go.com/boxing/s/2003/0913/1615580.html

and if your going stats wise got something for ya, alot of oscar punches was pitty feeling you out for the ight cross jabs. People are out raged because this is the golden boy. I was out raged three a football at the tv. after going over the fight shane won. And Lennox thought so, roy thought so, byrd thought so, 4 of the 5 writer thoughtso and the whole espn thought so.

Bye for now see ya oct 4th.

So, Shane is 2-0 against Oscar and is probably the better fighter. Forrest is 2-0 against Shane and is probably the better fighter. And Mayorga is 2-0 against Forrest and is probably the better fighter.

What about Shane vs. Mayorga or Oscar vs. Mayorga. Wouldn't it be interesting if Shane or Oscar would face Mayorga?

They say styles make fights. Mayorga's aggressive style made it difficult for Forrest to use his slick boxing style effectively. I'm sure Oscar would have the same problem. But Shane is very, very good going toe to toe. I think a Shane/Mayorga fight would be a brutal slugfest and Shane would win by KO.

Im curious to know what Jim and Tom think of this fight

I had it 7-5 oscar......maybe 6-6 if you gave shane an early round. This desision was surprising....but a 2 round swing is not unusual in boxing!

This desision was not nearly as bad as Holyfield/Lewis 1, James Toney vs Dave Tiberi or even De la Hoya vs Trinidad. In the Trinidad/De La Hoya fight, I gave De la Hoya 8 of the first 9 rounds....even if he ran circles in the ring (which is basically what he did) he should have won that fight!!!.........and he won those 8 rounds convincingly against Trinidad

There have been worse controversies in boxing that raised eyebrows!!....For reference look at Chavez vs Taylor.....Richard Steele stopping the fight with 2 secs left in the fight while Taylor had one 10 of the 11 rounds previously contested. Taylor looked BAD....but well enough to continue for 2 seconds.

Anyway, I wouldnt let this desision sour you veiw of boxing!!....there has been a lot worse that has happened!!

I will say that I stopped purchasing pay per views after Holyfeild/Tyson 2. I was sooooooooo upset that I payed 49.00 for that!.....I try and find bars now that show the fight!

From watching the fight I did have it 7-5 in rounds for De La Hoya, but I was prepared for the announcement that Mosley was the winner. I want to review the tape and take a closer look at it. I do think we as television viewers are maybe overly influenced by the Punch Stat numbers and although jabs used to control the fight pile up the numbers are they really that effective? If you have ever been at a fight you do get a completely different perspective than when watching on TV. Lets see what comes of the De La Hoya investigation - it is upsetting but there are bad calls in Baseball, Football, Hockey and any other sport that exists.

However, Baseball, Football, Hockey and the rest are not prone to this kind of garbage on a regular basis.

Funny, but I wonder if De La Hoya used Don King as a promoter what his record might be? How many would say that he would be unbeaten at this point in time?

Boxing is as corrupt as it has ever been and has lost a fan. I can't help if you guys don't appreciate when a guy throws jabs and boxes. All anyone wants to see is his a guy go in there in throw hard punches, and when he doesn't we say, "oh man those were pitty patter punches that aren't 'effective.'"

Oscar's jab not effective? Are you kidding me? It kept Shane Mosley, a combination puncher, from throwing combos! De La Hoya's jab forced him to throw one punch at a time.

I mean holy sweet mother of pearl, Shane's own ****ing father told him to go for the knockout in the 11th! Not advice you would give to your fighter if you thought he was ahead.

When asked why he wasn't following his corner's advice, Mosely admitted he couldn't do what was asked because De La Hoya's left hook was too quick!

You can defend it all you want. I know that I am not alone, I've scanned boxing message boards all over the net and people are outraged at such a miscarriage.

This will cost boxing big time, because it will widdle away at its weak fan base.

I have read countless posts of people, who like me, have said that they will never again order a pay-per-view. And if Oscar retires, like he should, who is going to be a big draw?

There ain't no one that sharp on the horizon. This sport has literally cut its nose of to spite its face.

I know that this will be it for me, and that's fine, because after this post I will have made my point and will leave it at that. I don't give two ****s what happens to this joke of a sport.

And really, who does care anyway?

I dont like what happened but oscar could have pushed the fight a little more at the end, it looked like he was protecting a lead which you should never do in any sport.
dont get me wrong i watched the fight in a bar with no sound(long story!) and i had oscar winning by 2 pts. but it was close and he did himself no favours in the last couple of rounds.

He came out slugging in the 12th! He rocked Shane in the 11th with an uppercut!

Mosely's mouthpiece went flying and he was staggered......oh ****, here I go again. . . I gotta quit doing this; there is no point!

I'm done seriously, I will not respond again. Everything that needs to be and can be said has been said.

Everyone I've spoken to thinks De La Hoya won by a clear margin, most believe he won by 2 rounds or more. I haven't read or heard from anyone who thinks Mosley won. Boxing is at an all time low at the moment and I think the governing body needs to be replaced. We need a total restructuring of the elite in the sport. Lets just hope De La Hoya gets a rematch, I hope he doesn't retire after this farce.

I had De La Hoya winning by two rounds, but I don't agree with everyone denouncing the decision. Some have pointed out that people in the building tended to have Mosley winning, while those watching TV gave it to Oscar. Stephen Brunt, who's our best boxing writer by far up here in Canada, was ringside and had Mosley winning decisively. As far as saying the fight was fixed, the boxing establishment had much more to gain from a De La Hoya victory, so that doesn't really make very much sense. It's also true that Mosley never seemed hurt during the fight, while he rocked De La Hoya a few times. This was a fight that was tough to score, and opinions will vary. Even if we disagree with the result, I don't think it's fair to impugn the integrity of the judging process.

Come on pitt are you crazy! Oscar never rocked shane! Oscar lost the fight because he fought like shane, and shane fought like oscar, a quicker cleaner oscar. I dont care about the pitty pat jabs, shane had the quicker and cleaner punches. the 3rd and 9th and 12th round he almost knocked him out! And of course his father is going to tell shane to knock him out because look at who is he fighting? And where? This is oscar town, and oscar de la hoya the golden boy, noone want to go to the score cards with him. Even in a close fight.the fans aint looking at the fight there looking at oscar, and there tottaly blinded at what shane do. From round 1 to five i have shane winning only 1 round which is the 3rd, the from 5 to ten i have shane winning 4 out of 5 rounds, the the last two rounds shane just straight whooped his ass. every boxing site i go to there saying it was not even a controversey. people can have diffrent oppinones but this is enough! I watch the fight 3 times, (have it recorded) and i dont see no hard punches from oscar, 108 of his 227 punches was jabs.

And about 55-60 of them was pitty pat jabs, and shane punches was quick clean and hard. he ate his body up then in the 11, and 12th round ate his face! People are just doing this because he isthe golden boy, well Boxing fans who keep saying oscar won and this and that, I got something for yaHe lost the fight,

http://www.boxingtalk.net/pages/leon539.htm

http://espn.go.com/boxing/index.html

http://fightnews.com

Im tired of people calling a fight controversey because one fighter is bigger (in name not phisically) then another, and pitt im not talking about you because your a fan, im talking about georgeforeman larry , and the whole hbo staff. they are the only three experts in boxing that thought oscar won. It its because of them that the controversey started. because max, and the whole espn staff thought shane won, pti thought shane won, i mean every site and show i go to says he won, hopkins thought he won, lennox, holyfield , roy the list goes on they are boxer but the fans are mad because they lost some money o a fight. lissen i will say this again for you stats guys out of 227 ouches landed, 103 of them was jabs and 60-70 of them was pitty pat jabs, on the other hand with shane, you seen a slow guy from round 1-6 but after six he was quick and clean, very clean and that impress the judges, the worst the fight could have been is a split decision to shane he won. MY friend think oscar won and every time i break the tape down i see him doing ohh ouch when oscar get hit.

Please don't think im mad and angry at you guys who think oscar won, Just talkin boxing.

After thinking about it I must agree that it wasn't the most shocking decision of all time, or even recent time. It could well be a honest decision which has received too much media scrutiny. But I still think the governing body should be replaced or substantially changed, as there have been too many dubious decisions in the past.

firstly, i watched the fight and thought oscar won. it was pretty plain and simple. when i heard the decision, i muttered a quick "oh, now that was bulls**t" and just moved on. but it wasn't THAT far-fetched. think about it. you have three judges getting three different angles of a fight, which in some ways makes it three different fights. even at home, i kept frowning as lampley was shouting out commentary on punches landed by one fighter, that i could have sworn i saw the other fighter get off first. (and that happens pretty regularly, by the way.)

but again, i thought the decision was wrong but not ridiculous. how was this worse than de la hoya - whitaker? ... or whitaker - chavez? ... or de la hoya - trinidad? ... or the so very lopsided scores of de la hoya - quartey? and those examples are only to provide some loose sense of relation or continuity. going farther back in time and across weight classes will cite far worse examples.

i don't get it. i just don't understand why THIS would be the fight to make one quit boxing. that could have happened long ago, and under far clearer circumstances.

I agree with everything that Erickdamac has said so far... for once. The guy cant spell, but he does know boxing. I also scored the fight while watching it, and I had 114 to 114 - a draw. But after watching the fight again, I had it 115 to 113 for Mosley. A question.... Why is there such an outcry by the public when the "Golden Boy" gets what they percieve as a "raw deal"? I didn't hear many people complain when Oscar got the desicion over Pernell Whitaker, even though Whitaker won that fight with awesome hand speed and the best defense the boxing world has ever seen (and that wasn't even during Whitakers prime). Why didn't you complain when De La Hoya got a lopsided decision over Ike Quartey? I personally thought that Ike won the fight, it was close, but Ike won that fight. In a nutshell: I think "The Golden Boy" has alot of you guys by the balls for some reason. Everyone is in an uproar when De La Hoya loses a close fight, but everyone thinks its perfectly OK when a fighter is given the "shaft" in the desicion after seemingly beating the "Golden Boy". IMO, Oscar has 5 CLEAR losses under his belt, and those losses came from... Pernell Whitaker, Ike Quartey, Felix Trinidad and the two losses to Mosley. Why didn't Oscar launch an investigation "for the sake of boxing" after he got boxing lessons from Whitaker and Quartey (especially Whitaker)? I guess he only sees what he wants to see. Don't buy for a second that De La Hoya is doing this investigation "for the sake of boxing".
