Marlins Trivia

Playing off the Conine/Santiago trivia question and per jaxmagicman's request, here are a ferw more Marlins questions:

(Feel free to guess if you do not know. Looking them up on the Internet is for sissies and Giants fans!)

1. During their debut season in 1993, the Marlins had three relievers in their bullpen who have recorded 40+ saves at least twice each in their careers. Name them.
Harvey, Nenn, Hoffman - draven

2. Charlie Hough was 45 years old when he pitched with the Marlins. Who was the only other 40+ year old to appear with Florida in their debut season?
Bob McClure - The Professor

3. Heading into the 2003 season, only four Florida pitchers had recorded 30 or more career wins in a Marlins uniform. Who was the first in franchise history to 30 wins?
Pat Rapp - matskralc

4. Who was the first Marlin Gold Glove winner?
Charles Johnson - Draft Dodger

5. Who was the first player in Florida Marlins history to hit two home runs in one game?
Greg Briley -skipaway

6. Which original Marlin hit a home run off his first major league pitch four years earlier, becoming the 27th player to do so?
Junior Felix - Draft Dodger

7. Prior to their debut 1993 season, the Marlins traded a little-known catcher named Eric Helfand to the Athletics. Who did they receive in return?
Walt Weiss - matskralc

8. Name all 5 players the Marlins traded to the Dodgers in exchange for Mike Piazza and Todd Zeile.
Bonilla, Sheffield, CJ, Eisnereich, and Manuel Barrios. Barrios appeared in exactly 1 game with the Dodgers.

9. scrap the question - my research was not thorough enough!

10. What former league MVP played 244 games at third base for the Marlins?
Terry Pendleton - jaxmagicman

Good Questions LL. I will tell you I cannot answer any off the top of my head, except number 10. That was Terry Pendleton. Oh and the Marlins won the World Series in 1997 not 1996 as question number 9 asks. But I would have to say it was Cliff Floyd.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

I'm sure this is wrong, but my guess for #5 is Bret Barberie.

My first thought on the Gold Glove winner would be Charles Johnson.

Gold Glvoe winner was indeed CJ at catcher. Pendleton is also correct for #10.

Guesses on #3 and #5 are incorrect. The answers to both are not commonly thought of players and one is almost obscure.

hmm...wasn't the answer I was looking for. I did not think of him. Still, Castillo has not "left" the team and was not on their 1997 postseason roster so I guess I could get by on technicality here

I'm also going to guess and say that Helfand is how Weiss got from the A's to the Marlins' Opening Day Lineup?

Good job, matskralc. Got 2 right

Danny, your first three are correct. One of the remaining two was a scrubby pitcher who never made a name for himself but the other is a well-known player!
