Contract Extension Policies?
In our league, we have no restrictions on contract extensions and it seems like most teams can re-sign 90% of their players leading to no studs on the market. Several times owners made last ditch attempts when players had declared their intention to test the market. But seeing as in OOTP, if a player just wants to hear your offer, it is unfair to put a restriction on because they never come back with a counter. So you never really know how close or far you are to a player's asking price.
My question is, what successful policies have other commishes put forth to endure some high quality FA at season't end? Any ideas would be helpful as we are looking to revamp our extensions policy. Thanks. |

We have a salary cap of 100M. In retrospect it may be high, but it was not in my hands.

Another option is to limit the number of offers a player will listen to. This way owners are forced to either overpay on a player late in negotiations or let him walk as a free agent. In the CDL, we use a three offer limit for each player, which combined with a low salary cap leads to a decent number of free agents being available every season.
Also, if Internet Mode is turned off, owners can basically figure out their own contract extensions for any player they want at the lowest possible amount they will accept if they have the patience to do so. |

My first experience with the "32" rule was in the iMLB and now has been implemented in UBN. Upon reaching the age of 32, a player has the right to become an unrestricted free agent, unless he is tagged a "franchise player". You can read up on it on the UBN rules page under Unrestricted Free Agents
Age 32 Rule This rule works very well and ensures a very good FA class just about every year. |

I didn't know this was THE Mike D.....I just figured it was Another Mike D. Check out the rules on that 32 rule...it really has helped bring some really good players consistently into FA. |
