Asked before--BOSI/CATO Question
Ok, what is the difference between Cato and BOSI? From what I've gathered, and correct me if I'm wrong, Cato is only for end of season, but BOSI is more for in season? Or is that way way off?

Thanks. I found a more detailed answer to my earlier post. I'm not too good with this forum thing. Sorry

BOSI was made with on-line leagues in mind. Some people have installed it locally, but from what I understand, it's not easy.
It is used during the season with utilities being created to assist in the amateur draft and trading. Reports were written to give owners more history, including rating changes and a bunch of career stats.

They're both great programs, and there's no reason you can't run both on the same league. They both add a lot of enjoyment to the game.
Installing BOSI locally is a bit daunting though (you essentially need to set up a server). It's mostly geared towards online leagues, but has some neat features for the solo league as well. You can track rating and talent changes as they occur, for individual players or teams. You get stat breakdowns by position in the batting order. Those are really the two things I find most interesting out of BOSI for the solo player. You run Cato at the end of each season, and it creates a baseball-reference style report. It will output very detailed information on lineups, statistics, awards, etc. Cato has an example of the output at his page I believe (www.jcato.net). |

The owner to owner trade negotiations in BOSI is cool too. Owners essentially send pm's back in forth with the ability to add and delete players and picks from their offers and counter offers. When both sides agree, it goes to the commish as a trade to be processed. Hats off to the BOSI group, by far (IMO) the best feature.
