The L.A. Angels begin their title defense.....

....at www.theubl.net (or use the link in my sig). We invite everyone to watch as the 1928 UBL champs (who trounced the vaunted Yankees with Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Mickey Cochrane in four straight) defend their title in a new divisional alignment. At least Andy Samford's perennial runners-up finally have a shot at the playoffs this way....

Watch as the devastating Angels lineup of Lloyd Waner, Larry Bettencourt, Chick Hafey, Hack Wilson, Don Hurst, Chester Brooks, Frank Warfield and Frank Duncan take out the Landis League pitching..... Angels back to back in '28 and '29!

Your boys won't be able to handle the Stars of St Louis this season. The addition of Edgar Wesley at first base has further solidified the potent mix of power and speed in St Lou.

Ted Lyons is back and healthy this year and will give us another season of great pitching backed up nicely by the staunch starting rotation of the Stars.

No way the boys from LA take it again........its time for the St Louis Stars to go all the way!!

The 1928 World Champion Los Angeles Angels have begun their title defense with a 6-0 start against their crosstown rivals in Hollywood and the perennial Landis League doormats in Homestead (off to a dismal 0-6 start). Barring injury, the Angels look ready to bring another title back to Southern California!

The Angels' winning ways continue, as the team still has the best record in the UBL at 12-2. Oddly, it's been the pitching that's led the way so far, as Los Angeles has given up the fewest runs in baseball. However, some of the bats are sure to heat up soon. The team's hot start has been accomplished despite a slow start from center fielder Lloyd Waner and the Bobby Reeves/Frank Warfield platoon at short, and with Hack Wilson mired in a slump. Look out Landis..... the Angels are looking to repeat in 1929!

At the end of April, the Angels have the best record in the UBL at 17-6. However, the new divisional alignment is going to be tough, as the second and third best teams in the Landis League, Chicago (16-7) and Kansas City (13-10) are also in the LL West. Although the Angels' hitting hasn't yet regained its 1928 form, Hack Wilson leads the LL in home runs with 9 and Jing Johnson (6-0, 2.10) leads the best pitching staff in the UBL and won LL Pitcher of the Month for April. Stay tuned as the Angels fight to hold off the Monarchs and Cubs in the LL West!
