Error in importing rookies individually?

I started a thread in the wrong forum. I am moving it here because I think I found an annoying bug. Could someone please confirm for me whether I am just being dumb, or the programmer made a boo-boo recently?

This post also includes a suggestion, unless you can already do it, and if you can't, then perhaps I am a double-dummy.

I run a historical league. I wanted no rookies generated when I proceeded to the next season. I wanted to import the players I wanted from the db, 1 by 1, and have them be my rookies. I cannot see a way to bypass the generation of rookies and still have a draft.

I tried entering a bad path for the database but the game insists I enter a correct path.

I tried entering the path to a blank database but the game crashes.

I don't like this. I would like an option to go rookie-generation free when proceeding.

Now for the bug. I proceed to the next season with generated rookies. I wanted to add some rookies. I imported a player from the database, but they were just a free agent and not a rookie. I thought that was strange as I had done this in previous seasons and the imported player was a rookie.

I restored and retried this several times with the same results.

I then found an older version of the game. I restored v5.01 and tried to import a player. I did, and they were a rookie in the draft. I put back v5.12 and imported a player and they were not a rookie in the draft. It seems like something went awry.

So, in summary, did I find a bug?
If I did, can it be fixed?
Am I correct in saying you cannot proceed to the next season and have a draft without generating rookies?
If I am correct in saying that, would it not be a splendid idea to permit this?

Thank you.

Bump. I'd like to do the same thing, but haven't tried it yet. Anyone else seen this problem?
