Something I've long wondered

When you're using scouts/coaches, do AI teams also use them? I mean, do they only know what the scouts tell them, do they think a guy has a 7 in HRs when he's a 5? Or do they know the real numbers behind it all?

The AI sees the scout ratings, they don't see the true ratings.

How do you know? I'm just wondering because I was looking at how the AI put its lineup together in my current league. It didn't make much sense according to the scout's ratings, but the scout was really bad and the true ratings made the lineups make more sense.

The AI teams also see everything through the eyes of the scouts they have hired... this does bring up an interesting question, however....

Would this be another way to make the AI "harder" - by having a switch that forced you to use average scouts and the AI to get better ones ?

interesting....

personally, I think the computer doesn't use scouts.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

I think all computers cheat. How come I have the only team in the league that loses its starting Cleanup hitter and starting pitcher 2 weeks before the playoffs to injuries that last 3 weeks. I think the computer just wants to show you who is boss.

Other games I have seen this happen in, All Madden games (if you turnover the ball, 95% of the time the computer is going to score), NCAA Football 2003 (sometimes you just have to just let the computer scorem because no matter what they are going to.) I think I am the only one that feels this way.

There is such a thing, however, as a "reverse proxy law of averages" which states that "If anything can go wrong, it will".

To me, the AI lineup building logic is flawed big time.

I believe the AI uses scouts.

Well, I agree it could be better based on what I would do - but if Bill James is anywhere near right, it really doesn't matter LOL

Yeah, in the grand scheme of a full season it probably doesn't, but when a team loses by a run when their weak hitter is in the "wrong" lineup spot it sure seems like it matters.

You guys just dont GET IT do you? Not only does the computer cheat but also at night, little AI Delta Force Agents hop out of your PC and do all sorts of troubling experiments on you and your entire family. THEN they implant a micro chip in you which causes you to become addicted to OOTP.

The cruel joke is that they ONLY implant the chip in you....while the other members of your family are left to wonder what has happened to Daddy.

How else do you explain the fact that I was up past midnight trying to put together a trade for a fifth starter for the stretch run?

I made the deal. Just under the deadline. Life is good.

shushh... you aren't supposed to reveal the super secret to anyone who hasn't been here for at least 2 years... Next you'll explain the fact that your team is always coded to lose Game 7 in a world series...

You forgot to tell them if you're up against a righthanded pitcher, use your lefthand on the keyboard. The game recognizes the platoon advantage.
