"Unlikely" Wins?

Anyone ever had one of those odd, "how'd they pull it off" type win? Such as, oh, having a pitcher walk 11 batters, have no strike-outs and only allow 2 earned runs?

I guess it'd be nice if the news thing would pick up strange things like that. Though, I'd imagine it'd be a tad bit more complicated to implement picky things like that.

i would think it would be similar to the way you can set box scores to save for quirky things.

Would a 12-hit complete game shutout qualify?

^ The ol' "scattering hits"?

The pbp guy at the minor league team I used to work for once, when the team was in a horrible slump, said, "...and Hook has scattered 9 hits over 2 and 2 thirds innings - way to keep 'em guessing..."

and in the same game, "...Watson's hitting .216, but is mired in an oh-for-August slump..."

I have unlikely wins - every game after the All Star break Second year running I've been leading the division by at least 6 games and having it all go to pieces.

Apart from that I can't recall anything that extreme. 11walks ?! Yikes, I wouldn't know wether to laugh or cry.

I'm beginning to wonder of the whole team chemistry thing is playing a major factor in this. My top rated and talented pitchers don't seem to do so well, and my mediocre ones seem to be excelling. It's almost as if the bats come alive when I've got a mediocre pitcher starting, and I end up getting shut out when my #1 or #2 starter takes to the mound...

Hmm...

This happens in real life. The SOX never hit for Pedro. But Oritiz (who pretty much sucks) for the Angels wins because they on average score 7.5 runs when he plays.

This is true like David Wells always among the league leaders in runs to play with. He gets like 7+ and doesnt have the greatest ERA its almost like they sign him cause they know the offense excels...

I had Barry Zito throw a 16 hit shutout the other day. It was an odd win. Zito's team only had 5 hits, but they managed to score 3 runs.

I just had Frank Castillo scatter 10 hits and 4 BB for a complete game shutout.

Defense probably helps. How many double plays were there?
Also, clutch pitching - striking out the side when the bases are loaded.

Yup, and an extremely durable although otherwise mediocre groundball pitcher in front of a terrific infield defense.

16 hit shutout takes the cake, though. Sounds like a game where there's a guy on 3rd watching the 3rd out every inning.

I've been wondering about that, too. In my solo league, my "ace" would be Mark Buehrle, who is limping along with a 6-6 record, but a team best 2.50 ERA. Estaban Loaiza, on the other hand, also has a .500 record (3-3), but his ERA is sitting at 6.90.

Go figure.
