New Historic League, 1949
SUMMER OF '49
* League will start with the 1949 Amateur Draft. * Managers will be employed and their records tracked. * As of now, Financials are off, but this isn't written in stone. * note: not all the links are working, but most are. Check out the Boston Braves link under Teams to see a sample Team Page. * Interested parties apply to NandTCorzine@GlobalEyes.net, list of 3 or 4 teams you would be interested in, and a brief resume of your experience. Also, looking for:
*Sportswriters, journalists to follow the action and provide stories etc. You guys will, of course, get a major portion of the vote for league awards. SUMMER OF '49 BASEBALL LEAGUE NandTCorzine@GlobalEyes.net

Open Teams
- St.Louis Browns (a team desperately in need of a talented hand, a few talented players including 1948* AL steals leader Bob Dillinger.) - Chicago White Sox (currently managed by Ted Lyons. The Pale Hose, like the Browns, need a capable front-office leader to get them into the first division.) - Detroit Tigers (Still has a capable group of starters including "Prince" Hal Newhouser, Virgil "Fire" Trucks, and others. Hitting is on the wane, but George Kell is a star.) - Boston Braves (Defending World Champs from 1948*, featuring Cy Young winner Warren Spahn (24 wins) and Rookie of the Year Vern Bickford (NL best 3.02 ERA). Jeff Heath and Bob Elliott provide the punch for manager Billy Southworth's boys.) - Chicago Cubs (A team on the verge of doing something special? Good late-season surge in 1948 to close on the Braves behind the hitting of Andy Pafko and Bill Nicholson. Features the NL's top Fireman of '48*) - New York Giants ("Master Melvin" Ott's Polo Grounders are a mediocre team in need of a spark. Team features 1948* NL Batting Award winner Johnny "Big Cat" Mize, who spent much of the year battling the Pirates Ralph Kiner for the NL HR title.) - Philadelphia Phillies (Perhaps the nadir of the league, a team that needs retooled from top to bottom. Steady and patient front-office man needed, apply: NandTCorzine@GlobalEyes.net) Also needed: - Journalists and Columnists!!! [ March 26, 2002: Message edited by: The Professor ]

Wow! Well, we are all full...
...still looking for a host of interested beat writers who would like to follow the league as we prepare to jump into 1949 (following the Amateur Draft, which this year features the likes of Don Newcombe, Gus Zernial, and Roy Seivers.)
