Green Bay Sweeps Parma

Green Bay Sweeps Parma

July 7th 2004

The Green Bay Thunderbirds thrust themselves back on the scene in the FLB. With St. Louis now in a freefall losing their 11th straight game the Thuderbirds seized the opportunity to make a move and now find themselves in first place in the FLB West.

In the first game of the series Parma arrived in Green Bay ready to take it to the Thunderbirds who recently swept the Champaign Titans in Champaign. Green Bay struck early with a run in the bottom of the first but the game would only see one more run scored until the 6th inning in what turned out to be a pitchers duel between Parma's Ora Snalevy and Green Bay's Nate Montagna. Green Bay would tally another run in the 6th and a 3rd in the 8th while the Thunderbird arms kept Parma at bay with a 3-1 voctory. First round draft pick Joe Gerber netted 2 RBI's.

In the 2nd game of the set Parma's Josh Bridges squared off against the T-Bird youngster Louis Harris. The T-Bird bats welcomed Bridges rudely to Wisconsin with 6 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inluding a 2 run double by DH Mark Procopio and a 3 run double by RF Greg Moton.

Parma would strike back with a run in the 4th and 3 in the 5th which ushered Harris out of the game. Green Bay would score again in the bottom of the inning to make the score 7-3. Reliver Patrick Hage went the rest of the distance and gave Green Bay a 10-5 win.

Durron Scalibar and Robbie Able would meet in game 3. Parma took a 1-0 lead to the bottom of the 4th where 3B Mark Tunnel gave GB a 2-1 lead with a 2 out, 2 run double. RF Tony Tarasco cut the lead to 3-2 with a solo HR in the 6th but Tunnel struck again with another RBI in the bottom of the inning to make it a 4-2 ballgame.

Green Bay took a 5-2 lead to the 9th where Parma gave the hometown crowd a scare when they scored twice on closer Blaine Stover. Marvin Whitechurch and Tony Syverson recorded the final two outs to seal the deal and the sweep of the East leading Parma Excalibur.

At the end of the week the Thunderbirds came in at 23-16 and have just one more game with Evansville before the All Star Break. Will the T-Birds continue their success in the 2nd half of the season? Stay Tuned !!

Hehe, yeah I like it too. The only problem is where you took the head off the last guy behind the bird head there is a small area on the ring border that is gone. Anyway its still a great logo
