OOTPHistory help needed...

I've been searching for quite a while & can't seem to find an answer to this...

I was wondering if there is any way to import past years of a fictional league. I've simmed over 50 years & just recently found this utility & i'd like to add the entire history of my league into my site. I just did the most recent year & wasn't sure if i could do past years or not. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm new to all this, so pardon my lack of knowledge.

Thanks,
-cpb

Two ways to do this:

1.) If you have backed up your league file at the end of every season, you can start with season 1 and go all the way through all 50 years. This is the preferred method since it will show you postseason results (champions, playoff winners, etc.) for each year.

2.) There is a way to export the player stats from past seasons if you don't have the backed-up league files. Use the Career Exporter that comes with CommishJoe's CSV Exporter v5. The filename is player_career.exe. If you export career stats to CSV *along* with all the other CSV files the first time you import data into an OOTP History database, then it will import past stats for each player.

For example, let's say I have a league that started in 2000 and is now at the end of year 2050. If I run OOTP History as normal, it will import the league from year 2050 and not much else.

If I restore the backup from year 2000 and import starting with that, and proceed from then until year 2050, then I'll have a full OOTP History database for all 50 years.

If I don't have backups, then I can use the 2050 file, export all data to CSV *including* career stats, and then import into OOTP History. At this point I should have player stats for everyone from 2000-2050, but the league history (listings of playoff results, etc.) will only be from 2050.

Hope this helps!

Very nice post A.J. Holz, I was not aware Joe's career exporter could do this, I always assumed that was for grabbing real life past stats from Lahman etc.. Great news.

Hey AJ, you have been helping me a lot today on the other thread, and I stumbled upon this. I have a quick question about your post.

I have the 2003 stats, and 2004 stats. I ran the exporter at the end of 2003 to get all those numbers, so now how do I add the 2004 season to my reports? 2003 and 2004 are on seperate .lg files, so do I have to create a new batch file with the exporters for 2003.lg, then 2004.lg, and create new .mdb files with ootp history? Sorry if this is confusing, I am extremely confused how to run multiple seasons with this program. I figured out one season finally Thanks!

No problem - the way to get both seasons in the same set of reports is like this:

Start with your 2003 data. Import this into a new .MDB file, which it sounds like you've already done.

Next, keep that file open in OOTP History, point the program to your 2004 data paths, then choose the import function again. This will append the data from 2004 onto your 2003 file.

Now, if you use OOTP History to generate reports, it will run 'em for both years and create a single 'site' that you can browse to see a comprehensive league history.

Hope this helps!
