Draft alternatives

does anyone play without an amateur draft for their league?

I suppose i'm asking for people who play in MLB or MLB-like leagues...what's your setup and does it work for you?

I kinda hate the draft and am toying with the idea of getting rid of it

I play exclusively historical leagues, and I turn the draft off and let the players start with their original teams.

You can let all players enter the league as free agents but imo the AI is really bad at assessing the value of young players without major league experience so everyone's demands are too low. So you can easily sign high potential players for cheap which makes the game too easy. I would like it if at some point the system for free agent valuation was overhauled in order to account for leagues like this and more accurately assess player value.

You could also have everyone join via international amateur free agency and scouting discoveries.
