Can't Make a Trade Offer

I attempted to make a trade offer for Robin Yount (Western Carolina League - Orangeburg Cardinals), year 1973. I keep getting a message that the team cannot afford the contract of the player offered. His contract in the game shows a minor league contract, signed 11/16/1972. It seems that his team is not affiliated with a major league organization. So, I'm curious as to his status? He was drafted in 1973 in real life and played in the New York - Pennsylvania (Milwaukee affiliate) league that year. Went to the Majors in 1974. This is NOT an As Played setup,

Yeah, that's the game's way of telling you that he cannot be traded for out of his current league as it is set up.

To override this in commish mode, I think you go to the league settings page for that minor league and select allow players to be purchased by major leagues (in RULES).

Considering every other team in this particular league is affiliated with a Major League club, will the players on this team go back into the draft? Steve Nicosia is another name on this team I recognized, and there are probably others with Major League time. Can the team be assigned to a parent club? Or is the only option to make the players available to be purchased?

I just had Pumpsie Green in the same situation and he eventually became a FA, as I think they only have single-season "contracts" with these clubs. You could always just go and release him in commish mode if that doesn't happen here.

If you affiliate them, and have auto-evolve on for the save then it will revert each year. Seems the most complicated way of doing things to me.

Thanks for the insight. Looking closer, Pedro Guerrero is also on this team. I also found 2 other teams in the minor leagues with no Major League affiliate. It just seems weird that Robin Yount was on this team. He is only 17 at this point. By age 18, he was on the Brewers major league roster. He was drafted in the 1973 draft. My draft is actually in December, and I am only in September at this time. This is why I was curious if these players would be in the draft.

So my settings are changed to ’Allow the purchase of contracts of players on teams not affiliated with Major League Teams’. Now, how do I go about purchasing these contracts? I only see trade options, but trading for these players is not allowed.

In the MLB FINANCIALS tab, I think you also need to have Allow Free Agents from other Leagues checked.

I'm not 100% sure on this, I just left it be when it happened to me.
