Strategy Question
So I've just started out and haven't really bought packs since first few days and have just opened up what I get on the daily. I've been flipping cards and trying to find value to build up a solid silver team for tournaments. Should I be building diff tier tournament teams and grinding tournaments? I just realized they have all these missions to do. Is that the fastest way without putting in real money?
I attached my team to show where I'm at. |

Tournaments are the best way to get a continuous production of points. My stats website can help guide you in terms of figuring out which players are good or not. You should also be doing your twitch drops every day (link to how to do that is in the forums), and getting ready for live updates by holding on cards you think might go up at the next update.

I did FTP for the first few years of PT I did, the secret to having fun without spending money is listed below in order of decreasing importance
1. Twitch drops-- You don't have to actually watch but get in the habit of letting OOTP streams play in a separate tab or on your phone when you're doing something else and you will get 5 to 15 free packs daily, this makes a big difference 2. Perfect drafts-- Spending money doesn't help you here, so enter as many perfect drafts as you can. If doing drafts starts to feel like a chore I just enter weeklies & still aim for 1x draft per day. I go for the ones that pay out "clubhouse stars' usually but some have pack rewards as well Distant #3. Build some cheap tournament rosters-- this has gotten much less effective with the introduction of variants, but you can put together an okay iron/bronze/silver roster fairly cheaply that will win a pack or two every now and then

Get 50+ packs week and never pay taxes
Daily tournaments. Keep the queue full 24/7 if possible.
Use AI roster + AI team set up at will until you can do better and customize. Takes under 40 seconds. Quick tournaments absolute pain so far this year. Can't hit anything because I didn't spend $500+ the week OOTP was released. I will eventually catch up. I wouldn't use Twitch if you paid me. That's just me. |

i barely have any variants (like, 3 per tier of quicks i play, just from things i've opened) and easily hit 58% win rates there. Plenty of people doing well without a stacked lineup in many tiers. Sounds like you need to work on your team building.

You get your Twitch drop cards from OOTP Development and/or affiliates?
Are Chrome auto-drop extensions still legal, acc to TOS? Last edited by Dr.Drill; 04-23-2026 at 09:33 AM. |

Should I be avoiding tournaments with variants if I don't have?

has nothing to do with OOTP TOS: it's twitch if anything.

for your two postss: there's a pinned post on here that explains who the affiliates are and how to link your accounts.
lots of good streamers. i'm not biased though. i highly recommend finding people you like and using that to get advice on how to get better at the game. regarding the other post, if you make good teams, you can beat teams with variants. obviously variant caps make stuff easier, but i'd highly recommend looking at the stats and figuring out which cards. i've barely invested in variants this year and i'm doing very well.

You talk about stats a lot ...
Is there an easy way to merge 'Last 10' Tournaments as Custom Filter. .CSV data merges take forever and are above my pay grade. Want to know if it's my imagination that Luis Tiant never lives up to his numbers in Low Diamond. |

no, there is no easy way to do it, which is why i've done all the work to do it for you all on the app.

There are clearly obfuscated (or completely hidden) stats that are used in the Batter v Pitcher algorithm. For instance, you can see what pitches a pitcher throws and how good they are at throwing them. I would bet batters have a rating for how well they hit each type of pitch. It would be interesting to run a series of simulations and see how well player A fares against pitchers X, Y, and Z who have different primary pitches.
