Importing world_default.xml crashes game
Have noticed that attempting to import a world_default.xml file via Database Tools crashes the game probably 98% of the time after any one of the three points in the attached images.
Answering "no" re: the names database doesn't seem to help either. I don't believe this is an issue with the file itself, because the same file consistently imports without any issue on 26...plus, as I mentioned, it's not crashing at the same point each time and I believe I've gotten it to import successfully before. Is this a known problem and is there a workaround in the meantime? For what it's worth, importing names.xml, by itself, presents no issues. It's just world_default. |

I will add that I found a bog-standard world_default.xml file, replaced the custom file in the database with that, and tried the import process...and it still immediately crashed.
So I strongly suspect it is something with the game versus some issue with a custom file (hence why the modded file works fine when I put it into 26). I have Mac btw. Last edited by ChrisG; 03-15-2026 at 08:55 PM. |

Well I restarted just now and tried importing my custom world_default as an experiment -- and wouldn't you know, it actually worked again once.
I tried it again, though, after a second restart, and it crashed after getting the "would you like to import names?" phase. However, importing a custom names.xml using the the "Re-import name and ethnicity database" function has yet to crash the game. So between all of that and the fact that a stock world_default.xml has crashed it too, I'm still thinking it's something with the game itself. Devs: I can send the crash log or any additional info if that helps. It shows "EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)" and "KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS." |
