Foreign Players Based on Team Region
Has anyone tried this or is it possible? I have done foreign players based on team nationality or league region but never team region. If I set a team and draft region will the team nationality rules default to region? As in say an African team can have 18 Africans on roster instead of specifically Kenyan?

Evidently so! I just tested it with my West Indies team—from a fictional universe where baseball supplanted cricket in cricket countries after WWII—and when I have the team region set to West Indies (a custom West Indies region, not the base OOTP one) but set the team’s nation to Jamaica (as opposed to a new West Indies nation I created), it was still able to count West Indies players from non-Jamaica nations for roster limit purposes. This is huge for me, so thanks for the topic.
Before testing it, I wrote an entire post about how Team Regions and Team Draft Regions work mostly as intended, but neither force teams to use players from the set region on their active rosters (which used to be the case in some previous version or other) and how there is a convoluted workaround that I’ve been using for a few years involving creating a new nation based on a region (e.g., West Indies) and setting all the nations in said region (Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, etc.) to use the new nation as a second nation 100% of the time (sounds confusing when I type it all out). But that seems to be irrelevant now as OOTP26 counts team region as team nation for roster limit purposes. You'll just need to make sure the game region is using (or not using) the nations you want included and adjust or create a new region as necessary. |

I’m not sure, all I know is that for at least one version when I was trying to do this the only thing Team Region seemed to do was determine where the players were from when you had the AI generate players for the roster. It would still use the team’s set nation (whichever city / nation you list under its profile) for the foreign player limit roster setting. So, for my example, if I had my West Indies team based in Saint Lucia, all non-Saint Lucian players would count as foreign players even with the team region set to West Indies and said players from other nations in that region. Now, that is no longer the case, and it works as intended.

EDIT: I found out, it's after the game is created, I have to go to Team Settings and set the region there (as well as the draft region if you want). That's neat! Thank you for this thread, it was very helpful. This will help me "simulate" the Bosman rules like in football, I just have to create the respective regions, which is very easy using the World file. This is important to set as well as I’m not sure the AI is smart enough to make sure that their team drafts players from their team region otherwise, then they have to rely on free agents to make their roster limits which might not always be viable. Then again, it’s possible that AI draft logic has improved as well.

Just tried this in an inaugural fantasy draft with both regions set to the same created regions and the AI was smart enough to just draft from region and drafted 0 foreigners. Hope when I get to season there will be no problems with foreign players
