Playing a historical season.

I've just purchased OOTP baseball. All I want to do is load a Historical season and then let it play out. I dont want to be Manager or Gm just a specator if you will. Afterwards I lke to crunch the numbers. I was led to belive this can be done in OOTP. Any help on how to do this? I would also like to do this for FHM. Thanks in abvance and Merry Christmas. Doug

New Game. New Historical Game. Pick the year and game type on Step 1. If you want it to replay with Historical Transactions and/or Line-ups, choos "Replay Mode". If you want the Computer GMs to have control of their team composition (trade, add/drop players), choose Default mode. The options hereafter will change depending on what you choose. If you elect replay, let the defaults on Step 2 stand. If you choose defaults, know that electing Real Minors will add a lot of players as will letting Negro League/Latin American players play will add significant variance. If wanting to hew closer to real history, choose no minors and no NeL players. The other options are fine. Step 3 is all preferences. I go 1-100 on ratings, most go with the traditional 20-80 scale. Name the Game so it is not a generic "New Game X". Adjust anything else. Also, if you chose "Challenge Mode" at the very beginning, start over and do NOT choose it. If you are new to the game you may want to enter Commissioner (God) mode and change something. Don't worry that it says "Role GM/Manager", it is fine because of the next screen... On this screen is a list of teams. Click NONE of them. Just don't click (there is no literal "None"). Just navigate to the lower right and hit "Start Game".

Wise words. And, as long as you save and backup frequently, you can correct your mistakes, or choose a different course.

When I started, I got a world of helpful advice in these forums, and support from the developers. At times the pro and con back-and-forth was bewildering. You find that everyone has their own preferences (I would never use anything but 1-100 ratings, in increments of 1.)

What I finally realized is that the learning curve - while actually setting up sims and playing games, is quick. You learn by doing, including making mistakes. Five years in, I'm still happily learning.
