No money for extensions...
In the 2028 season my team, Baltimore, states no money for extensions. What will happen? Any suggestions?
I don't alter any settings. Many thanks. |

Nothing. You will have a negative balance and won't be able to sign players or claim players off waivers. This will be until your balance improves.

If you know you can't afford to extend them try and trade them for some prospects latest at the deadline.

Thanks all.
How do I increase my money available? I have watched these players advance and don't want to lose most of them. Take care....Bob |

You can reduce your scouting budget and development budget. You can also get rid (if there are any) expensive coaches on various levels of your organization and sign cheaper ones. |

You can try to trade away high salary players that aren't pulling their weight to improve your bottom line.

Trade some bigger contracts. Are the player's you want to extend about to be free agents if not be patient.

fiscal responsibility... need a little familiarity with your market size and owner if that is part of the equation -- if they limit the budget.
use the accounting page and the player contracts report... you can see these problems coming a mile away.. need to look at this stuff before you sign FA or extend players. if you got guys signed into older ages, consider trading them before their ratings start to fall. |

All good suggestions here.
Another thought…. Depending on the time of year your save, you can also elect to not offer arbitration to fringe players who are getting more expensive. Bench guys or low leverage relievers are probably the easiest to non-tender if you need to save $$$ and just plan to replace them with someone already in Triple A |

If you look on the Accounting tab under Front Office, you can see what your Budget(top row), Starting Balance(second row, might be a negative number), and Expenses(Expenses Subtotal, near the bottom). The money for extensions is just Budget+Balance - Expenses, so if Expenses is higher than Budget+Cash then there's no money for extensions.
Add budget and balance(or subtract balance from budget if balance is below zero) together then subtract expenses, this will give you a negative number. Then subtract the amount your player wants for next year, and that'll tell you how much payroll you need to slash. You can go into the Salaries tab and it'll show you how much everybody is making on one page, you can try to find a player or players you're willing to lose whose salary add up to the amount you need to lose. Alternatively, depending on how you feel about using the editor, you can just turn on Commissioner Mode and edit your cash or budget under Team Settings. |

In my experience, if you have money left on your payroll, you can still sign extensions*. I don't understand why there is a need for a separate category. It is all payroll.
* at least in commissioner mode.

So I traded some fringe players away. That allowed me to sign Colby Mayo for an additional season.
After that....I'm screwed. Currently in June of 2028. Rutchman is signed long term and he won't live up to his contract. I have Holiday and Henderson under contract for a few more years. Don't know if I will have any money to keep players that are arbitration eligible. I guess these are the things that make this game so great. And...I refuse to take over a team with a massive amount of money available. Really appreciate all the suggestions. In closing.....GO BILLS |
