Why I hate this game
In manager mode, I just had another child. This seems to be cause for celebration, but not for me. It was my 4th girl. I want a boy that plays baseball. Why else would I have a kid. Can this be fixed in the patch
Who cares about trade AI when I can't have a boy.

To be honest, I just feel this whole aspect of the game is unnecessary, and corny. I think efforts would be better served elsewhere.

Yeah, this feature isn't really for everyone....
Markus or Steve had said in the past that the code for this feature was not time consuming at all. Not sure what that meant as far as hours/days. I also think that this was something that Markus wanted to put in partially for his one reasons, not so much as selling point. (IE Almanac) |

I thought it was going to be something that I wouldn't care for, but I've actually come to enjoy it a bit. Our of 6 kids, I've only had 1 boy -- and he looked like he was going to be a monster.
I also like the fact that I'm a 63 year old man dating a 23 year old. That's what happens when your wife of 30 some odd years up and leaves ya.

Not that I know the code that Markus is using, but something like the manager mode's "personal" aspects aren't complex enough to take much time. Things are pretty much determined randomly, from the age and name of the woman entering your life, whether or not the woman wants to marry you, whether they leave, if they want to have children, the sex of the children, and whether or not they end up being prospects. They all seem like relatively simple random factors that have a certain percentage of success and failure, and are unaffected by outside forces (such as winning or losing, age, etc). I could be off base, but I don't think it's something that Markus set out to develop (as other features may have been), but somthing that with a few tweaks dressed up something that had already existed in OOTP4 (the challenge mode).
I'm honestly surprised at the amount of shots the manager mode takes, and some of the things people say about the people who enjoy the feature. It doesn't take anything away from the game, in my opinion, nor does it really add it; it just adds a little color. For me personally, it's kept me in the solo league I'm running instead of starting over a new one. Instead of resetting, I've stuck around, just to see how my kids' careers turn out.

I am not taking shots at manager mode- manager mode is something very necessary- I just don't see why you need to have children and so forth. JUst seems a little corny to me.

If you're not having a boy, divorce the hag and find another one.

I understand what you mean...the manager part of the manger mode you like...but the marriage/family stuff is not your cup of tea.
Kinda what I mean earlier in one of my posts was that for Markus, and it almost sounded from a gamer perspective and not as the developer, he really finds the aspect of having a boy watching him grow (baseball skills wise) and then seeing if they can develop and maybe make it to the big leagues. He couldn't add that aspect but make it such a sure thing, so the logical addition was to also include daughters/divorces and what not. Again..I think that part was something that really appealed to him....and he hoped/hopes others. I can see where for alot of people this would just be a totally unuseful part of the game. |

The thing with the whole "marriage/family" aspect of it though can be easily enough ignored. If you choose to ignore the "relationship" part, you don't get affected. The game doesn't even stop to let you know something happened; just a small box appears if you begin or end a relationship. Those who wish to use the manager mode more like the "challenge" mode can do so without having to even see any of the "personal" aspects of it.
From whatever perspective Markus was looking from when he made the feature, I think he also predicted that there would be some who didn't like the "personal" feature. This is why I think it was put on a seperate page, and left the game completely functional if you chose not to participate in it. I think if Markus chooses to further enhance this feature, to say include features more related to the personal life of the manager (such as divorce affecting managerial ability the same way a player would go "cold"), he would include a feature that would allow it to be turned off.

This game is like China, utter dissatisfaction over the birth of a girl.

Maybe they could just add a feature to adopt kids.
